I just thought it was an interesting question. We do all have these questions and this is a message board, so why not ask them.Comment

Sure you can, we create a time machine and go steal Babe Ruth and put him on the 2008 Yankees. How would he do in today's game, fair enough question.
Conversely, what happens if we send Ken Griffey Jr. in his prime back in time to the 1940's or 1950's when he could play. Or what if we sent say Jim Thome back in time. Would he be destroying Ruth's records. I use Thome, because in my opinion Babe Ruth would be similar to him.Comment

I'm not trying to say you shouldn't have asked. It's fair and it's the sort of question lots of fans ask.
I just hope that people realize there's no real way to really know. Some of the responses seemed to hint at a strong belief that Ruth would or wouldn't succeed."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

Ah just came across this thread. I like Babe Ruth. He would be a stud IMO.
A 1B OR a Closer
714 Homeruns anyone?
I'll take it.
His power might not totally translate but I think batting average would in todays game.
Carreer Batting average for Babe Ruth:
.342
Carreer high Batting average:
.393
You have to remember, this guy was no schlub.
He was 6ft 2in, 215lbs.
Babe Ruth was bigger than baseball.
He was baseball.Comment

Ruth wasn't obese until the latter stages of his career. Although the ability to project moving pictures wasn't invented until he was already fat, for the first 10 or so years of his career he wasn't.
If you gave him a trainer (which didn't exist to the same extent back then), and a 32 ounce bat, the man would probably hit 65 HR per year.Blue Jays, Blackhawks, AuburnComment
