Wariming up pitchers?

how do you know when there warm is there a meter or is it guessing or is there no warming?

i read somewhere that last year it took two or three hitters for a pitcher to be ready, a mound visit supposedly was like one hitter, maybe someone else can be a little for definative here

I think the manual on last years game went something like this:

The pitcher on the mound needed to throw approximately 10 pitches for the bullpen guys to get warmed up. A mound visit was equal to 3 pitches. So, 3 hitters is about right....
