Nice job. I think you just copied my score of 93 for High Heat.

I'd say he never played MVP. While MVP is not the total package it does play a good game of baseball. As for "real" the next game I see on TV I'll be sure to look for the cursors.
Seriously though all the games have good and bad. I am getting ready to fire up WSBB one more time to give it a another chance. MVP is akeeper as it is just plain fun. HH and WSBB are on the bubble..tonight the selection will be made...

Re: Our World Series Baseball 2K3 Review

Skyboxer, you miss the point. Yes, you will not see cursors on the screen. However, the purpose of the cursor is to aim the swing. In real baseball, batters don't just swing. They swing away on an outside pitch. They swing inside out on an inside pitch. In HH, there is also a curson. Its just invisible. You aim in a location with the stick and swing. In MVP, you just time and swing. That's not real. In real baseball, you don't see a pitch meter on the screen, do you? WTF is that? The cursor is no different. It attempts to make hitting more real by adding batting placement to the equation.

MVP is NOT REAL BASEBALL. Pitchers can throw the ball anywhere they want by aiming a pitch cursor. Is that real? Granted you have to time the meter in the green, that isn't too difficult, as JROD points out in his review. You get the hang of the meter so that throwing strikes is easy after a few games. Batters make contact with anything thrown in the strike zone. Is that real? No. Is the game fun? Sure. But its not real baseball. Cathers don't drop third strikes, they can't pick off runners off the basepaths, there's no balk, no bullpen warm-ups, pitchers don't have off days without their "stuff", and stealing is difficult when 2/3 of steal attempts are sucessful in real life. MVP is fun because it plays a slightly exagerrated form of Baseball. It cuts to the action.

Yes, i have played the damn game. I say its like arena football because its too easy to make contact. Too easy to hit. Yes, I did rack up 15-20 hits on pro level after playing it for a couple of days. I don't like that. It may be fun, but it's not real. I could have increased the diffuculty, but my thinking was that in time, I'd be able to do the same on the higher difficulty levels. The AI makes bad decisions. It pulls pitchers early, sometimes without logic. To a baseball fan, this is unacceptable.

Lets look at my other gripes. Can you get Ks? Yes, but it's difficult. In real life, Randy Johnson doesn't have that hard of a time to get a K. In fact, do you think you can get 360Ks like RJ did a couple of years ago? I doubt it. That's averaging 12-15 Ks a start. I don't think you can in this game. How about HRs? This game has too many singles and doubles. Are there HRs? Yes, but again not without a struggle. In real life, HRs just aren't that rare. Even Benny Agbayani hits a few.

Granted, it's a first year effort and a fun game, if action is what you're looking for. The crowd screams like every game is the seventh game of the WS. The sounds are amazing. It captures the drama. But, it's too easy to get hits (Not HRs). It lacks walks, Ks, HRs, allows the usery to pitch anywhere he aimsby getting the "meter" right, these things just aren't lifelike. Sometimes a pitcher executes his pitch correctly, but he just doesn't have it in a particular day, so he can't find the strike zone. Not in this game. Yes, it's a video game. It's not real life. But it's trying to simulate a sport. If you don't care about that aspect of the gameplay, we might as well forget playing with real player ratings and just play with generic players whose skill are solely determined by the user (a la Atari baseball). I, for one, play a baseball videogame to play baseball. It needs to similuate the sport before it can be fun. Essentially, it's allowing the user to see what it's like to have RJ's ability and to go up against Todd Hundley. And RJ ought to be able to strike Hundley out, without the difficulty created by MVP. Maybe Johnson just overpowers Hundley with one in the strike zone. It's happened before. Not in this game.

MVP is a great game....just not a baseball game. Maybe arena baseball. Maybe crickett. Keeps you on the edge of your seat and easy to rack up hits. But pitchers pitching in the zone whenever they feel like it? Batters unable to draw walks? Batters having a hard time hitting HRs? Batters making contact with anything in the zone? Not exactly my idea of baseball. I agree with JROD. His review was on point because he knows baseball. Just my take.
