    Holliday to A's?

Heyman just came on Mike Francesca and said Holliday traded to Oakland, nothing official yet, not even for who, yet. Interesting...

Wow, this is definitely an interesting trade by Beane. Usually he's the one dealing his star players, not the other way around.

    Link's up on SI now.

Interesting, indeed. Like Sandman said, it's usually the A's (my second fave team) that are dealing away the stars.

Very interesting, I didn't know they were in the hunt.

has also been reported by ESPN -- no names on who was going the other way..

St Louis though was smart to not make that other trade..

I heard Greg Smith was included.

Yes just one less Dodger killer to worry about.

Depending on what Beane gave up, he's probably looking to either re-trade Holliday for more prospects or offer him arbitration after the season to eat up a pick from the team that gives Holliday $15+ MM a year.

From what all I've read it looks like: Carlos Gonzalez, Huston Street, and Greg Smith for Holliday. I'm wondering if the A's are going to try to sign him long term, should be interesting to see what happens.

I don't get this for either team...

For the Rockies, they had the core to compete in the NL West in 2009 easily. Another SP or two and they might've even been the favorite, and they trade their best player? Makes no sense. And since you do this trade, why ship Street somewhere else?

For the A's, like everyone said, they usually trade guys like this instead of trade for him (Haren, Blanton, Swisher, etc.).

Maybe they pull a Marlins/Piazza and ship him somewhere else.

This could be a legit trade for the A's with the team keeping Holliday. The A's used 8 different Left Fielders last season and the 8 combined for a much lower batting average, fewer home runs and 6 more RBI's. Not very good production. Add to the fact that after Jack Cust's 33 HR's the second leading HR hitter on the A's was Emil Brown-with 13. Holliday's 88 RBI's would have led the A's by 11 (Cust led them with 77). The A's need the bat in a big way.

If the A's keep Holliday then this is the first time they've been truly relevant in the last couple years. I'm not sure how Holliday will fare in the AL but he should do pretty well IMO.

Then again, the last trade Beane made blew up in his face as Blanton actually flourished in Philly. Usually when Beane trades a pitcher he becomes crap with the other team or at least not as effective.
