    Very odd glitch

I'm a stat junkie and a Nazi when it comes to jersey numbers on teams. I edit the rosters for WSB on a daily basis to be sure no team has players with duplicate jersey numbers and/or wears a number that is retired by his team.

While editing rosters I came upon a extremely peculiar glitch. Every once in a while, I'd say about 1 out of every 8 players, when editing rookies (fictional players) the glitch occurs.

    Here's what it is:
Say you have a rookie, name Joe Smith. You might be the Cubs (as I am) and he wants number 23. Although 23 is not officially retired, no one wears it (Ryan Sandberg). When you go into edit Joe Smith's jersey number and you change it to 24, or whatever it may be here's where the trouble is.

Joe Smith will now have career stats from a player that is retired. For example, Lenny Harris' stats may appear on Joe Smith's bio. All the years, teams, yearly stats are there but the totals equal to 0 because Joe Smith is still a rookie.

Also, Lenny Harris' picture will now show up instead of a generic grey silouete for rookies. And the biggest kicker of all, when Joe Smith comes to bat for your team the announcer will say "coming to bat. . . LENNY HARRIS!"

    What the hell SEGA!
Please fix this next year. It is way too big of a hassle to fix, which you can. If anyone is interested in hearing about how to fix this let me know and I'll go into how I do it.

    Re: Very odd glitch

I am going through my rosters with a fine tooth comb and I haven't even had a chance to look at roster numbers yet. Can you please post a work around if you have one? I gather from your post that you know how to fix this. The info would be much appreciated and save me great aggravation when I get to the numbers part.

Also, unrelated, I was going through stocking each teams minors with the low rated players that they have (most in FA List), when my game "crashes to desktop" so to speak! I am reading a generated profile, I push a button to go to his career stats and BAM! I'm looking at my 2 memory cards and the gold rotating disk in the PS2 browser. The worst part ; I hadn't saved yet and had to go back and do it all over again. I saved after every team the next time.

...but Lenny Harris isn't retired yet. That glitch makes no sense..my first thought was "ooh, maybe you could change someone's number to 23 and get Sandbergs' stats and name...how sweet would that be for us Cubs fans!

no, but Harris retired after my first season so his picture/stats were then made available. When I the Reds drafted a rookie named Jocko Wolf he was wearing a number that was retired or already worn by a current player, I can't remember which one. When I changed his number, Lenny Harris' stats and picture appeared for Jocko Wolf. When I played the Reds, when Wolf came to bat the announcer said "coming to bat LENNY HARRIS!"

                Re: Very odd glitch

Here's the way to fix it. It's a little time consuming and might screw up some teams temporarily that might have a very good rookie, but it's worth it in the long run. Imagine a player with a 99-100 rating 5 years down the road that has Lenny Harris' picture and the announcer says his name. I think it would be incredibly annoying.

                Anyway, here's what I do.
When editing the rosters and changing numbers when you come accross a player that is screwed up (old pictuer/stats appear) release him into free agency. I also drop all of his ratings down to 1 and make him old with F potential. This way you don't have to worry about another team picking him up in the future and the problem will not persist in the future.

Second, and most importantly, so you don't totally screw a team over that has a good rookie, you must find a player that has the same position as the player you released. Check and make sure he's not jacked up and place him on the team that has a missing player. Bump his stats up to where the first player was and give him the same age/potential.

It's realy not that complicated but it can take some time to do but for me it's well worth it because I think it could ruin the game after a few years in franchise. For most people its not really a big deal but I'm a stats nut and insane when it comes to jersey numbers.
