What happens if Varitek leaves BSOX???

Actually on the Monday night its the deadline for teams to offer arbitration to their top ranked free agents in exchange for the chance to either sign the player or be compensated if that player signs with another team. And if we talk about the BSOX then their whole attention was grabbed by the great catcher Jason Varitek... So what's your take on this....if you won't see Varitek in the team.....

Varitek is past his best before date. It's best to part with him now have someone younger. You can't run a franchise based on emotion.

I'm sure when his playing days are done he'll be involved in the BoSox organization as a coach.

Question: "What happens if Varitek leaves Boston?"

Answer: I jump for joy. Seriously - the guy is a great game-caller and has definitely helped the BoSox pitching staff come together but he is an absolute joke with a bat in his hand. Anytime he steps up to the plate it is almost a certainty that he will get at least one out (and if there is a guy on first most likely a double-play). He needs to go.

I think his days behind the plate are done.. Time for the Sox to say "thanks" and get younger behind the plate. He could catch on as a DH perhaps for a year or two somewhere - but the guy is nearing the end of the road for his career.

Anyone that signs 'Tek to DH should be banned from the MLB.

It's just tough to let a captain go, I think that's what the OP was getting at. It kind of defeats the purpose of having a team representative if they no longer represent your team, no matter how poor they are offensively.

What happens? They probably go out and get a catcher that can actually hit.

Varitek is well past his prime.

They probably make a deal for one of the Rangers 4 catchers and get an upgrade at the position.

Tek looks done from what I've seen. It would almost benefit them from letting him go, captain or not.

I was just thinking, the only person who'd be sad over this is Tim Wakefield. His personal catcher is......GONE!

Except...'Tek doesn't catch Wakefield. Cash, currently, does, and Mirabelli was his personal catcher.
