    Astros sign Mike Hampton

And I thought the Braves were stupid for just considering bringing him back. Good luck with that signing Houston fans. Thank god the Hampton era in Atlanta has finally ended.

    He had an era?

Anyways, you can't go wrong with a one year 2 million dollar offer. Who knows, he might find some semblance of his old self back where he became most famous.

Ok so technically it wasn't an era but it was an injury plagued 6 year tenure. Being a Braves fan and seeing him collect that ridiculous salary while being injured 90% of the time made it seem alot longer than it was.

        Saga, not an era.

Either way, I'm glad he pitched pretty well after he came back. I wouldn't have been opposed to giving him a one year, incentive-laden deal. The money was absolutely killing us but signing him to a low-risk deal would have been nice.

        Our pitching staff is AWFUL.

He is better off going to an AL team and being a DH.

Actually one of the reasons he signed with Houston instead of re-signing with Atlanta is to be closer to his kids since he is going through a divorce with his wife. The Braves offered him more money but he turned it down for Houston.

Doesn't really matter, since his family lives in Colorado. LOL

$2M! Man give that to me I can get you more innings than Hampton! At least I'm somewhat durable. That guy might hurt himself brushing his teeth.

                        Re: Astros sign Mike Hampton

                        Two things...

One, yes Hampton is extremely injury prone... but no... this is not a bad deal... infact, this is a great deal for the Astros. 2M is nothing to a MLB team... look at this deal just last year... Brett Tomko to the Royals for 3m a year, last year...

Hampton, when right, (no matter how rare) is a much better pitcher than Tomko. Plus the Astros did it right by putting most of his money in incentives.

As for question two, what is the joke about 'schools', I must of missed that one.

Good riddance. It was painful knowing how much he was getting paid to sit at home in Atlanta.

I agree completely; Hampton showed some life in the 2nd half last year - he was pretty good after he got going except Atlanta couldn't give him any run support. If the Astros get even 20 starts from him I think that's a success.

He was extraordinary back when he was in Houston before ('99 I think) but that was in the Astrodome: even Jose Lima won 20 games in that pit. I'm interested - barring he stays healthy - in how he'll do in at Minute Maid

It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

I think he'll do very well in Minute Maid with that short porch in LF. The dude can hit.
