    Adam Kennedy

The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that the Cardinals are now planning to retain second baseman Adam Kennedy.

Kennedy asked for a trade in August when the Cards re-signed Felipe Lopez, but the market would require the Redbirds to eat some of Kennedy's $4 million. That is something they are not willing to do. "I have no problem going back there at all," Kennedy said Sunday. "Them bringing in a third party (Lopez) last season just emphasized a lack of confidence in me. I have no problem going back if it's to play... It just seems like the confidence has not been there on their part."

Why the hell would they have any confidence in you? You're a 31 year old who hit .219 with a .572 OPS in 87 games for St Louis in 2007. You had a .321 OBP and had 7 steals in 115 games for St. Louis this year! Why on Earth wouldn't they look to replace you?

Confidence? Give it up, Kennedy. It's time to sit the bench. And hopefully that's never in a managerial position because you clearly don't understand the difference between production and past success. It's amazing how people can act when getting $4 million a year. Be happy you aren't watching the games from home and accept your paychecks.

To be fair the Cardinals are the one's who gave Kennedy the $4 million per year so they obviousley liked him when they signed him a couple of years ago.

Kennedy has never been a great hitter anyway. He's always been better regarded for his glove. I think the Cardinals probably realize that they are going to have hard time finding anyone to take Kennedy off their hands anyway, even if they eat half of his salary they probably wouldn't get anything of value in return for him so they may as well keep him.

Unless we swing a trade for someone like Kelly Johnson no way we'll trade Kennedy, as you said no one will give anything of value and we'll be paying at least half his salary so might as well keep him.

If we pull off a trade for a 2B (Johnson is the most often mentioned name) then I'd definitely ship Kennedy off and pay half his salary to free up a roster spot and get a nothing prospect in return.

As far as knocking Kennedy, go ahead and knock him all you want for 2007 he was terrible, but as far as last year goes we got what we payed for. His 2008 numbers were right in line with his career averages so we didn't sign him expecting astronomical batting average and OPS he hit .280 with a .321 OPS, career averages .276, .328 OPS. Not defending him saying these are the numbers I want out of an everyday 2B but I can see why hes irritated, hes doing what hes always done and they benched him. I can see the Cardinals side to though they want more from 2B saw a guy who could do it and brought him in. Its a business so Kennedy can't be too upset.

Like rsox said hes always been more known for his glove anyway.
