Whitesox shipping Dye to Reds for Bailey?

Hall of Famer sports writer Hal McCoy is reporting the Whitesox and Reds have agreed to a deal sending Dye to Cincinnati for Homer Bailey and that the deal will be finalized this week.

Loving this as a Reds fan. Homer was hyped up to be our savior...turns out he was just a huge baby without the stuff as advertised. Have fun Chicago!

    No deal, per Walt Jocketty.

9:06pm: Ken Williams speaks.  No Dye trade, but plenty of interest. 6:26pm: Dusty Baker spoke about the Dye trade talks …

ESPN said the deal was done last night while signing off; but it is not. It should be interesting to see if this actually goes down or not.

Idk, I saw Homer Bailey pitch once and came away unimpressed.

But, that was one start vs. a whole career of Jermain Dye.

          Certainly can't compare.

And don't forget that Bailey is still fairly young, where as Dye is going to probably fall off the table at any point in the next few seasons. And Dye is injury prone.

They just got rid of Griffey, apparently they need another older, injury prone outfielder.

Yeah and I think I read somewhere that with Bailey you have him under contract control for 6 years compared to Dye's 1.

The Reds are done with Bailey and would take almost anything for him.
His stock around baseball has fallen each of the last 3 years, he is a head case that has gotten worse each year.
The Reds need a RH power bat to bat between their lefties and Dye is about the best option at this point. What good does it do to have Homer locked up for 6 years if he never makes it to the show.
Also Dye is locked up for 2 years, this year and next year is a team option if the Reds would want to keep him.

It's a mutual option, which hardly ever are agreed upon.

Bailey sucked last year, BUT Gavin Floyd sucked in his final year (2007) in Philly before they traded him and Gio Gonzalez (who Chicago parlayed into Nick Swisher) for a broken down Freddy Garcia.

Gavin Floyd then throws a no-no for the White Sox in 2008, and wins 17 games for the White Sox.

I'd bet on this deal going the exact same way for Chicago, or at least that's what they're hoping...

why spend the money on dye? how much is it 10-11 million? if he could be had for less much less.I say get him ,if its in the 10 mill plus he is not worth it, there is enough young guns the reds can plug in left field(dickereson,hopper,freel...and so on if you have 10 mill plus to spend get more pitching...your gonna need it

You honestly cant compare Dickerson, Hopper, or Freel to Dye.
Dye hit 34 hrs and knocked in 96 this past year.
And Dye makes 11.5 million this year, I think.

here is what i mean,by no means trying to compare you cant, but the reds it would be like renting a player for a year, and at 11.5 million no way,we just got rid of 10 mill and 11 mill in griffey and dunn, the reds would not be able to afford him the next season if,a big IF he puts those numbers up again...so to me its not worth it keep the young guys and lets play ball get pitching and they will be fine...

I don't think it's that bad...I'm not very high on Bailey at all. He has about zero control and then the aforementioned mental issues.
