    A question for the board...

Hey I am new to posting here, but have read a lot lately. I am very interested in what people think of WSB, but that isn't the point of my post. The qustion I have is that if everyone is so interested in realism in their games why is it that the first thing a lot of you do is make a ton of trades? I never understood that. Anyway, just wanted to see why people did this....

i try to play reaslistically.. if i am doing well near the deadline, i try to pull off a major deal or two.. of course, if i am bad, then i try to unload the higher priced talent to try to get rookies a shot..

I've never really understood this either.

But then again I usually do make trades this go around. Like during my Phillies franchise I traded Nick Punto for Gookie Dawkins, Rheal Cormier for Brandon Inge then sent Inge for Mike Venafro, David Coggin for Jack Cust...

And Later trade Jose Mesa and Eric Junge to the Marlins for Tim Spooneybarger and Carl Pavano who got shipped to the Royals for Miguel Ascensio.

The only trade that I've made where the person I got in return is on the 25 man roster is the Spooneybarger deal the rest are all in the minors, well besides Cust who is up because of a Pat Burrell injury. Actually all the deals I made besides the Mesa/Spooneybarger one were with players under 60 rating. I dont try to get big name players.

I usually do trade during the deadline.. But I've read where people on here are trading for all-star players. When I trade I trade for pretty much my minors and usually even then they arent big on potential.

See those trades don't bother me that is cool. I was just talking to a guy today who in one breath complained the game was unrealistic and then in the next said he traded for Sosa ans Bonds. That just takes the fun out of the game if you ask me. Anyway, that is all...this game rocks by the way.

I 100% agree...I try to keep my team as similiar to the real-life team as possible. However, guys who really suck, I will combine, try to get a team who would be willing if I throw in some BPs.

I think trading half your team away for the superstars makes it very unrealistic and changes the game entirely!

its not realistic to make trades at all IMO, after all you ARE the GM and can run the team as you see fit. once you step into the game world its akin to entering an alternate reality in the sports world really. the only key to maintaining realism is not making UNREALISTIC trades.

such as someone said above, assembling all stars or even just getting one big star that a team wouldn't really give up (such as you trading to get Bonds in year 1)....now crap like that would never happen for real so that's unrealistic, but just making normal trades is not a bad nor unrealistic thing at all IMO.

i trade because i wanna play with players i enjoy..
im not a sosa or alou fan.. so those were the first i shipped off.
i like to keep it down to less trades as possible.. but sometimes i get carried away

in trades i usually try to just dump salary.. i mean i think real gm's would do the same thing if they didnt have to worry about fans complaining.

I always hope that the games trade logic is good enough to keep me from making unrealistic trades. That is what I am searching for is the perfect baseball video game where I don't always have to limit myself but am able to test my limits as a general manager and a player. Inevitibaly every game I play eventually I have to impose some sort of self limitations for the sake of realism but once I get a new game I feel it is my job to test that game to its limits to see how realistic it is without me imposing self limits.
