    Vernon Wells on the Block

Looks as though the Blue Jays are fielding offers for V-Dub.
As one of my favourites I still believe at this point in time trading him is wise.
Jays are in Financial problems and Vernon has played much better in the spotlight and would do well in on a big market team.
I would assume The Jays are looking for one thing and one thing only... Pitching.

No one will touch that contract with a ten-foot pole.

Wells a solid player, but not worth the money he's making.

Would the Jays take two mid-low level pitching prospects(starters)?
...and would Wells play left or right?

Then we'll sign Lowe and move on..

If the Cubs traded Rich Hill, Felix Pie, and a prospects for Wells, I would be ok with it.

Not a good deal to you Toronto fans? The Cubs would be paying for the entire monster contract of an above average centerfielder.

Yeah his contract which is 7 years $126 Mil is more than hes worth and if hes traded the next team would have to pay 6 years of that 7, but its possible especially to teams that dont care and just want to win. Personally I would actually go to the cubs and perhaps another club and swing Harden with another pitching prospect and a SS prospect. either way I bet Toronto will STILL have to pay some of Vernons contract regardless. but overall its not a bad Idea.

lol well hes never played left or right ever and hes a tad better than cameron fielding wise, I bet though that the Jays are looking for big prospects coming back type A and multiples of them

He was miserable in the field this year, was he hurt or did his contract make him lazy?

He must've been injured, only played 108 games. I don't remember what injury it was though. He hasn't played fewer than 130 games for the previous 6 seasons.

The Jays can't trade that gargantuan backloaded contract. It's just not going to happen. Wells is stuck here for good.

Sadly...He should've never been re-signed...Should've been traded for prospects. Management panicked and overpaid for an overrated player who isn't very clutch.

My within organization source told me the Yankees are very interested in him.

                          What's XFD?

I also think the Wells signing a few years ago was a panic move. I think the only reason the Jays did it is because of the backlash JP received from not making a serious offer to Carlos Delgado when he left so they figured they had to sign Wells at all costs.

As for Wells in the field this year? He was injured this year as well, mostly shoulder problems stemming from a shoulder dislocation in Cleveland. The guy is a pretty damn good fielder but as a hitter he's highly suspect. His best years came when he has a legit power guy hitting in front of him. The only way the Jays could trade him is to eat a lot of the contract then again, if he goes to the Yanks that wouldn't be much of a deal.

The Jays would be looking for veteran arms, not exactly old guys but guys who've been around the league for a while. Now if we got one of the young Yankee starting pitchers then I think we pull the trigger.

D'oh! It WAS the wrist. I was thinking of the year before when he had a shoulder problem and like a fool he played most of the season with it. That reminds me, ever since he's gotten the big contract he hasn't been fully healthy.
