How do you guys run a franchise?

Every time I start a franchise I get bored with it quick. I am currently doing an AL/NL realtime franchise where I'll play every game, but I want to get into another one that goes a little further into the future.

I am tempted to re-start my O's franchise, but the thing with crappy teams is if you play only one game of each series, you're still gonna suck, unless you pull off some major deals.
So, peeps re-building teams in a franchise, what keeps you interested?

    Current Franchises: Yankees 'real-time' (2-0), Expos 'real-time' (1-0), Orioles 2004 (11-17)

Well, I'm playing as the Expos.... and not doing a good job. I think I'm 19-27 so far...... Like the real spo's though, I find it challenging to try to find a good rookie somewhere that no one else notices, and traded a higher priced player for them.

I just recently wanted to shore up 3B, so I traded Wil Cordero and Zach Day to .....I can't remember! anyways, for Cory Koskie, and some good looking young LF'er with lots of potential. The LF could become the biggest part of the trade in a year or two......

I just like trying to build up a team with finanical and talent constraints.... taking the Yankees and winning all the time doesn't appeal to me at all!

        Things I like to do:

Get rid of high priced talent

        Get young talent

        Spend money on the management

        Biuld the team on speed

I offer trades constantly-the game does not let you get away with big steals but every once in a while it does (traded Keving Brown and Darren Dreifert for Mark Mulder which cleared 100 BP and got a younger better pitcher for cheaper)

Resigning players you want back during their last year is cheaper than waiting for FA

With my A's franchise, I tried to keep my payroll down or about the same while improving it through trades. I also like young players and since the A's have young talent, there really wasn't all that much work to do....I traded for Vernon Wells, Josh Phelps, Dewon Brazelton, Frankie Rodriguez, and Kerry Wood. Those trades lowered my payroll and because the A's are doing well, my income has already increased twice and I am raking in some major cash for my bank....Of course, doing well and keeping a low payroll is also good because it helps you keep your stars - as much as I like free agency, keeping guys like Tejada and Chavez are more important so I don't have big plans in signing many free agents...
