Cincinnati Reds
We finally won, against the cubs. We had a 8-0 lead untill Graves and out pitiful bullpen gave up 9 runs. Sosa hit his 500, that was great. Kearns, Boone, and Dunn all had homers. Griffey went 1-4 with a run and drove one deep center on his last at bat but it wasn't deep enough. FINALLY WE WON AND WE CAN'T GIVE UP THIS MANY RUNS A GAME IF WE WANT TO WIN MORE!!!!Tags: None -
Re: Cincinnati Reds
In that ballpark, it looks like you guys are gonna give up a ton of runs, especially when it gets warmer. -

Cubs pitchin' didn't give up any runs last night(11)?
The opposition will give up some runs as well!
I don't care how many they give up, as long as we come out on top!!!!Comment

Re: Cincinnati Reds
Sorry to rain on the Reds parade, as Great American looks nice and you've got some serious offense, but this Reds team as is will be lucky to be .500. You can't win every night with lousy pitching, hoping you'll put up a 10-spot just to earn a W, which is exactly where the Reds are. The Mariners learned this back in the final days of Griffey, where they'd have several 9-7 or worse, 11-9 losses. Lots of HR's with Junior and A-Rod and Edgar and Buhner, but below-average pitching translates to .500 or worse. Not to mention their payroll where it is, with many quotes from Lindner and company that they won't be upping the budget anytime soon. The M's, meanwhile, brought in a real GM in Gillick and finally re-dedicated their resources to pitching, and with Safeco such a pitching/defense/speed ballpark, it's translated to an average of 100 wins the last 3 seasons (the 116 win season helps that average, obviously)!
Anyway, as we see in the postseason time and again, the oldest saying is true, via former Reds great Joe Morgan on ESPN the other night - "Great pitching beats great hitting 9 times out of 10."Comment

Re: Cincinnati Reds
I've had a chance to see two games in GABP already and both times the wind was blowing either in or from right diagonally inward to left. And the ball JUMPED off bats. The Reds haven't had a team ERA under 5.00 in like six years. I'm hoping for a team ERA under 7.00 this year.Congratulations BUTLER BULL DOGS!

Re: Cincinnati Reds
From the day they made the trade and still today, I say the Reds should not have traded for Griffey.
I'm not talking about him getting injured a lot, or being unhappy either. I'm referring to the fact that the team they had the year before was a first-place squad. They broke that up to bring in Junior. If they had gotten him through free agnecy it would have been a different story, but I hate when teams mess with a winning formula.
I know it wouldn't have been popular to hear that the Reds turned down a trade offer from the M's that would bring Grif to the Nati, but I believe that they would have been a better overall team over these past few years."If y’all see me in the news, and I make the news for something that I ain’t got no business making it for, don’t bash me. Say it was a young guy living."
