He's still under team control for another year after this contract is up since he is a super two player(meaning he has 4 years of arbitration eligibility). So, he won't be a free agrent after this contract, the phillies will have him for one more year and have to go through arbitration or sign him to an extension.

          Good move by both sides.

You can't go wrong with a young lefthander that strikes people out and has an impressive WHIP.

It doesn't even matter that he tends to give up the long ball, either because he doesn't walk many hitters and he doesn't give up too many hits.

What's even better is that he dominants with stuff that tends to last into the late 30's. He's not dependent on a high velocity fastball. He's more pitcher than thrower.

Best lefty in MLB not named Santana.

Keeping Hamels longterm is a MUST. I want to see him in a Phillies uniform till the day he retires.

The Phillies can't let another staff ace get away like they did w/ Curt Schilling in 2000.

If the Phillies can only keep one guy for the next 15 years, it would have to be this guy. Assuming he can stay healthy, he shouldn't have any problem winning 250-270 games in his career.
