What is the Concept of Timing?

While playing MVP and looking at harold reynolds MVP tips am still a little confused on what timing a pitch really means. And can you people give me tips on putting the bat on the ball and is there any tricks on getting more hits and homers in allstar level of MVP (Xbox)

timing a pitch is basically swinging at the right time. e.g. you swing earlier when it is a fastball than when it is a changeup. If you swing too soon you'll hit it off of the end of the bat, too late and u get jammed.

you actually used "e.g." in a response to this guy? have any of his posts led you to believe that he would understand that?
