Re: Bull Pen management help needed
What I do is anticipate. If my pitcher has a little more than half of his stamina left, I might put pitchers in the bullpen. In that inning, I would use my current pitcher and if he's getting hit all over then I'd bring in my relievers.
I have my CPU BA at 35 with CPU BE(B) at 90 and CPU BE(S) at 85. At this setting, they hit all over me when I'm tired.
So I usually try to be wise about the bullpen. -

Re: Bull Pen management help needed
I usually let Zito, Mulder and Hudson pitch far into the game. I keep an eye on their stamina. Zito can still get some nasty people out when he is tired. If I am in the 8th inning and my pitcher lets the leadoff man on, I start warming up people in the bullpen. It doesn't hurt to Premptively warm up your bullpen in the 6th and 7th innings as a contingency plan.
I would say that if you #1,2 or 3 starter has had a relatively easy game.....then warmup around 7th. #4 or 5 starters...get the bullpen ready by the 5th-6th inning...they don't last long...Comment

Re: Bull Pen management help needed
I wait until it's necessary. If I have my #2 starter in and he's cruising along then suddenly walks the leadoff guy in the 7th, I put the pen up. Then, soon as I sub in the reliever I have the pen going the rest of the night.
Of course, if he walks the leadoff guy then gets a grounder for a DP, maybe I wait. Depending on his position in the order and other things.be who you are and say what you feel, because those who matter don't mind, and those that mind, don't matter.Comment

Re: Bull Pen management help needed
I'll wait till my guys struggles with a batter, then see what his stamina is and who the next 3 hitters are. Then I'll decide when / if and who to warm up. Also since I play in the NL, I'll warm up a reliever in the half inning in which the pitcher would bat if I'm pinch hitting and he is usually ready. Basically it takes 3 batters minimum or a half-inning to get a guy warm.Favorite Sports Teams

Re: Bull Pen management help needed
If my starter is not having a 'great' game (lots of K's or a shutoout..etc..), I will usually get someone going in the pen around the 7th inning (sometimes the 6th). I will try to 'stretch'(by this, I mean he's pitching well, but his stamina is really low) a starter if he's pitching a shutout until it's gone (say, in the 8th inning)...then I get someone up in the pen immediately. If my starter comes out in the first inning and gives up 7 hits and 5 runs, I will MAYBE give him 1 more inning and see what happens....but I almost ALWAYS get someone up in the pen to help stop the reaming.... Hope some of this helps....Comment
