Re: Its Official...andruw jones is now a ranger!
.148 average in Dominican Winter Ball, and he was asked to leave his team.
He worked out with Chipper, McCann, and a few other Braves for a few days last month, all of whom promptly went back to Frank Wren and told him no way. -
Re: Its Official...andruw jones is now a ranger!
I would be shocked if Andruw got it back together. I mean he has shown in the past he is capable of good things, so it could happen but I seriously doubt it will. I pretty much knew Andruw was all but finished in the last year he spent with the Braves.Comment

Come on....be optimistic yall. We havent been to the playoffs in years! We have a habit of letting go young studs who blow it up with other teams...(I hated the chris young trade with all my heart) so now we are a charity case for all the players who were once something and are looking for it again. I mean it wroked for sammy, jennings, patterson, right? LOL We few fans in arlington have our faith that he might be something. After all, rudy can help almost anyone. If not, and he turns out to be a waste...things could be worse. We could be fans of a team that hasnt won a WS in 101 years!Comment

What's the difference in weight now and when he hit those 2 HRs in the 96's series? About 125lbs? Yeh...I believe he's done - sadlyOriginally posted by Gibson88Anyone who asked for an ETA is not being Master of their Domain.

I suppose it's worth a shot. No one expected Sammy to make the team either and he managed to play pretty well. I would rather them spend the $500K or whatever and take a chance on a pitcher though, but we all know that isn't going to happen.Fan of....

Re: Its Official...andruw jones is now a ranger!
ITs been well documented that Andruw has been battling various knee injuries since 06. Some of it he has played through.
The problem is that the knee + the weight + age have slowed down his bat speed a bit. Having an injury can make someone change their swing.
Dude has been a pull or nothing hitter since he came up with the Braves. So its not JUST his approach that is kiling him.
Point is...if he can get truly healty (having a DH should help) he could be a good hitter again (25-30 homers .240-.260 BA). As far as CF...well that is anohter story
I copied this from the other thread because I wanted to say something about it. Me and the person who made this post (MaverickIsBack) have different thoughts as to what a good hitter is.
Those numbers listed IMO are numbers of an average hitter which is all Andruw ever really was. He was never a good and was never no where near a great hitter.
People look at that year he hit 51 homeruns and I saw look at Adrian Beltre. Look at the last year he had for the Dodgers. He has come nowhere near repeating those numbers.Atlanta Braves

And look at Adrian Beltre's 2004 season. Beltre and Andruw are carbon copies of each other. Andruw's career year was in 2000. Right after that year he got a huge contract and bombed.
Beltre's career year was in 2004. Right after that he got a huge contract and bombed.
Andruw's career average is .259. Take out that 2000 season and career average drops to.254. That's how huge 1 difference 1 year can have on a career. I'm sorry but a .254 or .259 career hitter is average.
Here is an example of it going the other way with Chipper Jones. We all know how great a hitter he is. Well in 2004 he had his worst season with only a .248 average. His career average is .310 but take that year away and it goes up to .315.Last edited by AUTiger1; 02-09-2009, 02:40 PM.Atlanta Braves

Playing at Safeco doesn't help Beltre either. His numbers would go up around the board if he didn't play in a park that is death to right hand pull hitters. Especially him since his power is towards LC-CF and that's a graveyard for would be HR's for anybody in baseball.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment
