Should people lighten up on Canseco now?
I read both of Canseco's books and I believed everything he said when a lot of people didn't. Now it's pretty obvious he was telling the truth.

Re: Should people lighten up on Canseco now?
NO...I like Canseco, but what he did was a dick move.
He didnt do it...to clean up baseball. He did it because he was angry that he was blackballed.
I personally think steroids did more good for baseball then bad. Baseball was almost dead until that Sosa McGwire Homerun race kicked in and brought back America's past time. It just went sour when Bonds turned around and destroyed them both...if Bonds didnt hit 73 nobody would care about roids. And for there work they will be pushed out of the HOF.
Canseco didnt help anyone by naming dropping..except sell his book.
To me he is no better than Kobe ratting on Shaq about his affairs...meanwhile he is screwing around with the maid in Colorado. There is little difference to me. He broke the trust of the lockerroom. Canseco still takes roids NOW. So how much is he really against it. He just sold out his "friends" for money. To me that is pretty lowComment

I tell ya, I am probably gnna get reamed for this opinion but here t is:
I really hate the fact that people are getting their feelings hur and feeling all "betrayed" thattheir avorite player used a FORM of steroids. I mean if people actually did their research and knew what steroids can do and the SEVERAL kinds of steroids out there then people might acually be shocked. I mean, so I am a great hitter in real life. I can hit for power pretty well. When androstein and a ton of other testosterone products came out I took it. It is now considere a Class 3 steroid and was pretty powerful. I went from 190lbs to about 220 in about 3-4 weeks. What did it do for me. It mde me look like an better athlete and gave me endurance...but it didnt give me an edge to hit a HR. I still hit the same amount it was just farther. In the end a HR is a HR. Hitting it farther is for show, and when we didnt know AROD was juicing we loved the show he gave blasting HR's. Baseball is hand eye coordination people, no chemical can help you put the bat to the ball. Cheating is such a stupid term, if an athlete wants to subject himself to that form of training then by all means, let him. I just hate the fact that steroids somehow tarnish a whole career. I dont care waht anyone says, if it meant playing your dreamin the MLB and the only way to do it was be in top form and steroids was the only way to do it, then people would do it. I really dont care too much for conseco, the guy is a snitch. He ran into a finacial opportunity and because of it all hell broke loose. Like I said its just an opinion.Comment

Re: Should people lighten up on Canseco now?
No I hate Canseco and am glad he is blackballed. Bottom line dude is a snitch. He turned his back on the guys he played with day in and day out and sold them out for a chance to make some money selling a book. He has done nothing but bring down the careers of his fellow ball players. You do not tell what happens in the locker room I don't care what the price is.
On another not let's not make it look like is completely truthful here. He is the same guy that wanted to lie and take up for Clemens when his stuff starting coming to light. He is also they same guy that tried to blackmail Maggs for some money. This guy is a joke and a damn punk. I hope he never sells another book and people just stop listening to him.Comment

Anyways, I don't like Canseco as a human being but he's been vindicated and as much of a sleazeball as he is he's proven time and again that his allegations were all true.

Canseco hurt baseball. He betrayed his friends for money. Doesnt matter if he told the truth. Its betrayal. That is like a friend you trust telling your personal business to the world....yeah, maybe its true...but it wasnt for everyone to know.
As far as I am concerned what these guys put in their bodies is their business. The only thing they owe me is that when I pay for a ticket...they put on a good show.
Athletes get such a bad rap....YOu dont see known steroid abusers such as 50Cent and Sylvester Stallone get scrutinized half as much as athletesComment

Re: Should people lighten up on Canseco now?
NO...as far as pop ups becoming homers...NO steroids doesnt help with the trajectory of the ball. But if you get the right trajectory on the ball it will go furhter with power. The other advantage it will give you is that you can swing a heavier bat. Keep in mind Soriano is one of the skinniest MLB players around he hits bombs...homers arent about strenght...look at photos of Ted Williams and Joe D...those guys were crazy skinny and still hit the long ball consistently
Steroids don't make you a MLB player but if you already have the skills to play at that level, they will only enhance performance.
A juiced up Barry Bonds hit over 70. A natural Barry Bonds never hit over 50.***My Teams***

The endurance aspect of steroids is the BIGGEST cheat.
Over the grind of a 162 gm season the guy taking steroids will regain his strength faster than the guy not, and because of that can compete at a higher level for that timespan.
However, in about 2/3 yrs the steroid takers body will begin to breakdown. Tendons, ligaments, and joints, which never could recover naturally from their everyday/extreme use and the exboritant amount of weight put on them (if the person has bulked up too), are now like noodles and can snap/break/tear on a whim.
It is a big deal that takes out of perspective a players NATURAL ability.
Some players are only capable of hitting 20/30 HRs, and if that is their capability w/o juicing then they need to realize that and come to terms with it.
If anything else, OTHER THAN HARD WORK, helps them hit the long-ball/go 9 innings then it really <IMO> isn't thier accomplishment, its the drug's.
Since their ARE people not willing to be the narcissist that you have to be to put your body into harm's way, just to be a little more successful than the next guy (albeit for a short period of time), its cheating and its not OK.
Why does A-Fraud even need to use steriods?
He is already in a class all his own. His competitiveness greatly works against him, and more and more I'm seeing character flaw after character flaw for a guy who wants to be perceived as having some sort of "great" character; why because he is clean-cut? Puh-leaze.
Maybe someone else could've won the MVP in 2003, but since A-Fraud was juicing and able to come to the park everyday w/ yet another EDGE over other hitters, he hit his way into an MVP.
Ryan Howard's 58 HRs could've been the greatest season since Maris, had McGwire/Sosa/Bonds not been juiceheads and broke it <Bonds by a ridiculous amount>.
Its people like you who think this only affects you.
It affects society man...Kids out there trying to work hard see A-Fraud taking roids and then THEY consider it. Because he sets an example, you set an example. Get over yourself.
People need to stop acting so self centered w/ the whole "Its my body, I can do what I want" and remain ignorant to the fact that their actions set a bad example for society.
Their is something bigger here than yourself, or your records or your success on the field.

It amazes me people have this "dont ask dont tell" attitude. Yea I paid to see these athletes entertain me but it seriously diminishes the entertainment when I know these men are juicing themselves up. Not to mention the message you send to young guys fighting hard to make their way to the BIGS and fulfill their dream.
As a player, if you wanna become better, spend extra time in the gym (or batting cages or football field) and become a student of the game. Eat and become healthier. Push yourself like some of the other greats did to become the best. (MJ, Ali). But dont use steroids!!!Huge Fan of the New Orleans Saints & New Orleans Pelicans!!!!!!!!!!!!!Comment
