Lets think about this for a minute man. And I promise you I am coming at you with the utmost humilty and respect. I am nto trying to patronize you, I am just about to say how i feel.

In all honesty bro, If my children were looking up to Barry Bonds, and Alex Rodriguez, as Role Models, or someoen to pattern thier life after. I would have to take a long look in the mirror and ask MYSELF if i am raising my child right.

There is nothing wrong with watching a professional player play the game, hell, he could be your favorite player of all time. But why would you want to be liek someone whom you dont even know?

Why would you want that for your kid?

Im all for playing sports, alloww your child to be the best player he can be, but when these kids start "looking up to" or Admiring these indiviuals. thats when it crosses the line...In my book.

I'd much rather prefer my child get to know someone for their qualities , something thats real, rather then just because they are good at a game.

I might be in the minority here.

But I tihnk we all have to look at our society as a whole when we give these athletes more control over our childs lives then we have. THAT to me is the biggest problem. Not beng worried about if your childs favorite player is on Androstine and your scared he mgiht do it to. Teach them to have a little bit more common sense then that.

Be a Parent.

And for the record I dont have children.

I love sports, I like a lot of athletes, but the only time I would ever idolize an athlete is for their work off the field, rink, court...Warrick Dunn as an example.

Sports is not that important to the point I will say so and so player is my idol or hero because he hit a walk off Grand Slam or shot a winning 3. My heroes and idols were always my mom, dad and to some extent my older sister...That's it.

If your child chooses to use steroids or whatever, then claims the only reaosn hes doing ti is because A-Rod and Barry, did it, then you havent done your child a service as a parent.

Its the Same reason why some kids who choose to listen to a certain form of music, or enterntainment, feel liek they need to act that way to mimic whatever they are listening to or watching, while you can take a child who was raised correctly, listens to the SAME music, and has common sense, morals and knows how to act...and takes the entertainment for what it is. "Entertainment"
