As it stands, Bonds is the best player ever, with or without his rightly earned home run record.

Thats not true at all, Bonds was being booed and having needles thrown at him in every road game he played the last couple years. Even the commissioner said he didn't know if he would be at the record setting game. He may not have come out and said he cheated but public opinion was likely 99% sure he had.

There was a lot going on with Bonds also. Like pure racism when he jumped Ruth. That had nothing to do with anything but racism right there. More people hated him for hitting that record than for hitting Aaron's.

Also do you think it was a picknick for Roger Maris when he broke Ruth's single season homerun record?

here's what he said even 20 years after the fact:
"They acted as though I was doing something wrong, poisoning the record books or something. Do you know what I have to show for 61 home runs? Nothing. Exactly nothing."

Popular dislike for Bonds has nothing to do with racism.

It's so awesome that we have someone who knows why people who hate Barry Bonds hate Barry Bonds. I mean, if you can do such a feat, why not construct a pie chart, or venn diagram, or perhaps, you know, empirical evidence to back up your opinion.

Should be an interesting reaction, Bonds was hated before the 'roids because he was a total prick, A-Rod was hated before because - well he's easy to hate (big contract, good looking, kinda weird behavior sometimes, sucks in the clutch, etc). But it was almost like it was fun to hate A-Rod, I think it was more malicious with Bonds. People generally disliked him as a human being, I'm not so sure that's the case with A-Rod, at least not to the degree that it was/is with Bonds.

I don't think people will be throwing syringes at A-Rod, especially not for the next ten seasons but 2009 might be rough. I think when he does break the record in the next 5-7 years MLB will honor it and by and large people will accept it. The HOF is another story, the crazy sports writers on their high horses - who knows what they're gonna pull.

there are a lot of loved black athletes, so it's a pretty easy statement to back up that I made. In general, people don't hate black athletes, so if they happen to hate a guy who is black, we shouldn't assume that the hatred is because he's black.

People hate a lot of white athletes too.

Oh you guys are right, I'm wrong. I guess when I see people screaming "N***R" this and that and watching one game where Tim McCarver never explicitly said what some of the crowds were saying but pretty much explained it as "wrong for the sport" and "say what you want but those things aren't needed in the sport" and going to VARIOUS message boards and reading "N****R" all over the place I guess I was delusional.

Yeah ok, been on this earth long enough to know better. YOU guys might not have racism in your hearts but trust me ALOT of people do.

Race was so not a big deal to you, you had to comment upon race as being a nonfactor with Bonds.
