    Offseason 'stuff'.....

I just completed my first 'off-season' and I must say, it was pretty cool. I liked the option to fire and hire new coaches, which I took full advantage of, upgrading my batting and pitching coach, AND my minor league manager. I don't normally play 'spring training' games, so the lack of them here doesn't bother me. I DID like how you get a rundown of how your guys did in spring training, whether they improved, declined, or stayed the same. I had substantial improvement in several of my young players. Free agent signing is pretty standard, but I never had a player get pissed at me and refuse to talk to me before (like I did yesterday)....I'm sorry, I am not paying 35 BP's a year for 4 years for an 84 rated guy (forgot who it was...it wasn't anyone 'super', though). All in all, this is the most fun I have had with a baseball game in YEARS!

This is probably the place to ask.

I am 14 games into a 40 game season with the Indians. I managed to trade Lawton and Gutierrez (if only it were real !) and am now way under budget.

Do I help my chances in the off season Free Agent Market by not spending this budget on pickups for this year ?

Obviously if i sign anyone to a multi year deal then that will have an effect but say if I trade for Pudge on a 1 year contract will that affect the money I have to bargain with in the winter ?

This doesnt answer your WSB2k3 question, but Matt Lawton as Im sure you are aware had some real major surgery last year. He is finally getting healthy and even when he struggled last season he still had a great OBP%. I have a feeling he will finish this season batting .280+ with a OBP% close to .400.

To semi answer your WSB2k3 question, take a look around the league to see what players will be FA's next year, base your decision on the players what WILL be availbale.

yes but I got Blalock for him and I wanted to get Coco Crisp as my leadoff hitter anyhow.

I agree with you on the real life Lawton - I think and hope he rebounds this year.
