Ok, so what makes you say they'll have a "winning season". Still haven't explained it. I hope it's not Adam Dunn.

Considering the question of the OP, Howard is definitely someone he should watch.

Part of it is Adam Dunn. I think with the inevitable acquisition of Strasburg it's going to give the team a real number one ace, Zimmerman and Dukes will continue to develope, they should be able to have enough guys come up through the minors along with signings and trades now that Bowden isn't around that the team should be at least 82-80 in 2010 or 2011. And that's the best case scenario. I'd like to see them do it as a fan and if it doesn't happen, I'll be the first person on here to explain why.

That'd be a good team to follow if it weren't for Sabean.

              Player A: 105
              Player B: 81

If you think Player A is a better player, you just said Jeff Francouer was better than Hanley Ramirez that year.

Also, I'd never take the opinion of manager seriously when Dusty Baker has a job. The guy would rather have an out happen than a walk. Also, do you know what the best general mangers would say? They never taken into account RBI's when acquring players.
If you were a GM, you'd be fired very quickly. With regard to Dusty Baker I agree w/him to an extent. I'd rather have a run scored than another walk which is what he was inferring to.

Anyways, Pujols is the best player in the game. He was injured all of last year (something w/his shoulder) and still won the MVP and has been arguable the most feared hitter for the last 5 seasons. In his 8 years in the league, he's averaging a line of .334avg/ 42 HRs & 128 RBIs a season not to mention a fielding percentage of .995% the last 4 years.

I mean if a player has 2 on w/2 out and he walks or bunts for a hit...Well, eventually, the inning is successfull if he and the other runners on score and someone drives them home.

As stated earlier, in order to win the game the winning team must outscore the opponent. If you personally could ask every major league player and/or manager, each one would say the most important stat is the RBI.
It's overvalued because it's so dependent on the players you have hitting in front of you. Andruw Jones had 128 RBIs in 2005. Sounds good, right? It does until you consider he batted .236 with runners on base and .207 with runners in scoring position. RBIs can just be extremely misleading.

True, yes sir, but I don't think it's overvalued. It's a measure of production IMO which directly impacts the club and has the most influence as to whether the team wins or not.

You'd be the first to explain why? Lol, that doesn't sound quite as sure it's going to happen. You're reason sounds like a lot of hoping... which makes it even more interesting that you don't consider Howard one of the best players in the game. You dig deep into his statistics to break him down but are sure the Nats will be over .500 soon b/c of what you hope happens in the future? If we were talking fantasy baseball, everything you said would be on the money and worth considering. But we're talking about sitting on the couch, deciding whether we're going to watch the ball game on ESPN or pop in a movie. What players might make me want to watch the game. Ryan Howard is one of those players.

And by the way, I'm a fan of the Nats. I still know there's no way I can say with confidence that they (or my O's) will "definitely" be winning teams in 2 or 3 years. Especially in the divisions that both of them are in.

Do you know who follows my train of thought? Billy Beane. He's the best general manager in the sport. Do you know who else does? The guy who turned around the Rays, Andrew Friedman. Along with the guy who brought two championships to Boston, Theo Epstein. Do you know who thinks like you? Ned Colletti, arguably the worst GM in baseball.
