    Ivan Rodriguez signs with Astros

    1 yr / $1.5m. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/6313575.html

I think it is a great deal for the Stros. Rodriguez has been very impressive in the WBC and looks like he has some left in the tank.

The Astros desperately needed a veteran catcher, and this could really help the club.

Rodriguez is a darn good signal caller as well and I can see the 'Stros doing pretty well with him. Even if he bombs it's not like they spent too much money on him.

Exactly..these days $1.5m is about as cheap as you can get a veteran player of ANY caliber.

I don't see how this could go wrong. I mean, Pudge has always been viewed as a good teammate and asset in the clubhouse, so I don't see a downside.

I absolutely hate this signing. But then again, I'm a Cardinals fan.

But seriously, its a really good signing for the Astros. I didn't think the combination of Quintero and Towles was going to do anything special. I think this signing maybe lets the Stros seriously contend for the Central.

<DEL>It isn't set in stone yet, but it looks like the Astros also signed Pedro.</DEL>

This week’s question come from P. N., who asks: I’m an Oakland A’s fan and there’s been a lot of talk lately about how the A’s are leading both leagues in the number of batters hit by pitches. Tim Hudson has suggested that the pitching staff needs to be more aggressive in protecting the hitters. […]

The Astros beat writer is saying it's not Pedro:

But she was wrong about Pudge, so we'll see.
