Damn dude, you make it sound like he pulled a T.O. or something. He's just stating the obvious. American fans don't support this like other nations do. If I was a "professional" baseball player I would've said the same thing in hopes of getting more U.S. fans to support this team. You gotta admit it's a little embarrassing when other country's fans come and support their guys even if they don't play well for a game or two. Youk didn't blame the lack of American fans for the 11-1 bashing, so you shouldn't use all these excuses why he should "just shut up and play."

It's naive to think that we don't support Team USA.

(1) The games are in Florida, a state dominated by hisapnics. Duh! That's why there's SO MANY there, and that's why the PR flag is waving in your face Mr. Youkilis.

(2) The core baseball communities along the Eastern seaboard, and points west - due to the economy - can't just pick up and head to Florida to pay full price for a WBC game, and then factor in food, lodging, travel, etc. I live outside D.C., and if there was a game at Nationals Park I'd be there, hell if it were in Philly I'd go, but the weather prevents that, and I just can't drive to Florida for a weekend Cj, Mr. Youkilis...

(3) Yes, I feel Mr. Youkilis is making excuses for the 11-1 mercy rule. There is no need to quesiton support. If he said after a win we need more support then ok, but he didn't and never did. He said after a 11-1 stomping "We don't feel supported"......Mr. Youk do you not have enough self pride or pride in your country alone, to go out and perform your very best despite a raucious crowd of Puerto Ricans? You shoudl want to win for self-pride, and "self" pride in your country, rather than making excuses about how I wasn't there waving an American flag.

Don't get 10 run rule and you will have more support. Youks needs to say we haven't taken it serious. Tonight's win will bring the Americans back. Especially now that the team actually cares! That goes a long ways.

The "fans" should care from Game 1. It shouldn't take a game that they barely squeak out to get them to care. Sounds a lot like US Soccer to me.

You have people traveling from their home countries to watch their "nation" play and people here can't even be bothered to support their own country's team.

People can travel thousands of mile for the Super Bowl yet can't be bothered by this. Obviously the mindset on national pride between this country and others aren't one and the same... in baseball.

I disagree when your own team is treating it like a regular spring training game then why should we care. They finally figure it out and now realize this does matter. But I will say one thing Johnson has a hard job managing this team. He knows that he can't allow anyone to get injured or teams owners will be on him. If you play all out and try to win which they did last night people will come.

Look at how the Canadians came out for their first game.. and look at the American support in the ENTIRE WBC, from '06 through this year.

It's sad, really. You think the Mexicans weren't supporting their team even after being embarrassed 17-7 in their opener IN Mexico? No, they came out in full support against South Africa.

Again, it's just a pride thing in baseball in this country. Means more to other countries. Nothing to get upset at. Just how it is.

Not when your own team don't care. If MLB played that way I am sure you would not be a Mets fan. Fans want their teams to go all out. If they aren't doing that why should we care. That is what I am saying it means more to other countries. They love beating the big bad USA. It is what it is. Finally the players care and that will do a lot for the fan base. I am not going to watch a team that gets 10 run rule until they show they care. And they finally did that last night. Even if they got beat last night they put up a hell of a game. That is all I wanted from them. I know they will not win this. There are just too many good teams out there. But at least they show they care and try to win. That is all we asked for.

Am I the only one who thinks it's dumb for the WBC to expect millions of fans to give a crap about some "world baseball classic" that they just created a few years ago to make money? It's not like the Olympics or World Cup that actually mean something, it's just some crappy dumb idea that screws over MLB teams that have good players.

I think it's insane to bash fans for not caring about this, why should we care? Yeah, I have national pride, but it's just a stupid made up event played at a horrible time. It's not like these are players ready to go, it's spring training and they're all horribly rusty.

Sorry for the anti-WBC talk, but I just don't give a crap and think it's dumb to expect me to treat it like the Olympics.

The game was awesome - but I only saw the highlights as it wasn't on regular cable (I believe it was on the MLB network which I can't get w/normal cable). With how all of the GMs in baseball "requested" their players not participate it won't be a major deal and it's not surprising that Dolphins stadium wasn't even 1/5 full.

Personally, I'd like the tourny to replace the actual all-star game (since it's about as much of a flop) and stop mid-season for a little 2 week tournament...The players would be in game shape, it would be ideal playing conditions and the intensity of the WBC would most likely carry over into the actual MLB season and the playoff push. Of course, as feasible as it may seem, that would never happen.

A vast majority (if not all) of them are immigrants LIVING in those areas.

I'd say 1% actually traveled from there home country to watch the WBC, and that's being liberal with it.

Compare that to the support for the US in the US.

Go read the articles how the Dominicans were left shocked and with plane tickets to Miami after being ousted in the first round. I know individuals headed back from Miami personally. I would be there if work wasn't crazy.

It's really a non-discussion here folks. When you have the players here making the same frustrated claim, what more is there to say?

The only solid thing you mentioned is they should have it in a place that is a more baseball focused area, like New York.

But anyways, what does Youk expect? It's the WBC. No one cares. I love baseball more than damn near anything, but I couldn't give two $hits aobut the WBC. From the way it looks, most Americans feel the same way.

So what? I could care less about soccer, too, and the crappy World Cup. The WBC is just another stupid idea carved up from Bud. No one cares now. And no one will care in 2018. Just the way it is.

You will never, ever, ever have ALL the best possible players play, and rightfully so. I know I wouldn't if I were a MLB player.
