I really, really wish this whole tournament would just go away. I haven't found one person I've talked to that enjoys watching it. Everyone just hopes that no one gets injured and gets back with their team as soon as possible.

Even if USA was demolishing opponents, I don't see the support growing. I know here in New York fans just want to see Jeter and Wright get through this without getting hurt and screwing with the Yanks/Mets seasons.

Which is fine and all... and that's understood by some. But people shouldn't take offense then when someone says X country cares more about the sport because of their turnout. If you care, show up. People can show up to spring training games just as easily as this and actually see MAJOR LEAGUE PLAYERS in a tournament of solid baseball as opposed to young kids trying to live the dream.

And if you don't care and don't want to show up, don't take offense when people call you on it. That's all Youk did. And he didn't even do it in a negative way, just mentioned he's troubled by it.

That's fine, but people are saying that people who aren't caring about this don't have pride in their country and that's where I disagree. It's even harder to care because the MLB (or whoever) treat this as more than a Hallmark Holiday created to charge a lot for tickets and make money, along with a lot of top pitchers not wanting to play (understandably so...I'd sell myself out to play in the Olympics or World Cup, but this is nowhere near established yet, and wouldn't say the WBC is possibly worth my career in the pros).

A lot of what's been said is that Americans need to step up and root for their country with passion, and if you don't you're a bad fan. I just disagree with that assessment. If other countries want to take the WBC and own it, love it, etc then go for it. I just personally see no reasons for me to care.

Have you ever even been to PR, or that stadium for that matter?

I saw a reg season Bluejays/Expos gm there in 2004, and was there last summer during a cruise.

First, the ENTIRE island is about as big as Connecticut. San Juan is the capital and obvisouly the largest most populated city, which explains the turn out. A LOT of people live right there around that area of that ballpark.

Second, THERE IS NO TRAFFIC, anywhere in San Juan which would compare to the states. So to get to the game all you need is gua gua (bus) money, and you're there, which further explains the turn out. From any point in San Juan, except maybe where the Bacardi factory is (where you have to take a ferry), you can get to that stadium well under 30 minutes, well under.

Third, Puerto Ricans LOVE beisbol, which even futher explains the turn out IN PR. Americans "like" baseball, and LOVE football.

They're so many incorrect facts in this post that it's laughable.

Just like people who say that suddenly the US players care, but they didn't care when the lost 11-1 to PR?

I mean, it's ridiculous.

It's bandwagonism 101.

Yeah, people don't care cause it's played in sunny, perfect weathered Miami. Yet thousands visit the same frigging state of Florida to watch their respective teams exercise and play meaningless spring training games.

I still say more Americans would care if they were winning. If they were favorite to win it every time that played. More people would be into it. I do agree with some saying they don't like it because it can mean maybe a stud getting hurt before the season starts.

I really don't agree with that. I know a lot of people who were hoping the USA got knocked in the first round so the players could get back to spring training.
