Ted Williams is the LAST player who did it.

Nope...it is simply a big deal because there's nobody that has done that since.

Well, I think these people you are listening to don't know jack about baseball. They talk about Ted Williams hitting .400 because of the era that he hit it in. No one has hit .400 since then. Think about it, you pretty much have to hit every day for 162 games (although he did it in 155 or however many games he played that year). And to say he is a god, no, but he is as close to a god that a ball player will ever come. A .340+ ba over a 19 year career and 500+ hr and all that along with taking time out to serve his country?? What a man.

I could be wrong, but I think walks counted as hits back in the dead ball era.

Can you imagine what Bonds' average would have been if that rule were still in effect?
