With All The Talk of Injury At The WBC...

...why do they play this meaningless game at the end of every pool? Why do the two best teams in each pool have to play an essentially meaningless game. It seems they could shorten this tournament by skipping these boring games. Take the US for example. Since Venezuela went 2-0 in the pool they should be #1 and the US should have been #2 since they had to win a play-in vs. PR. Did they really need to play last nights game. For all the talk of injury why don't they just skip this game.

Money. You get an extra game each pool to make money from.

The players in the WBC want to play more games not less, see Chippers comments on the current format. And the final game is for seeding for the next round and the winner of each pool gets more money.
