Re: *** The Real Deal ***

Strasburg had his worst start of the season today (in 39 degree weather):

    8 IP 3 H 2 R 2 ER 1 BB 14 K (114 pitches, 79 strikes)

This was against #16 ranked TCU, who averages 7.57 runs a game.

    updated line for the season:

    42.1 IP 24 H 8 ER 8 BB 88 K (5-0, 1.70 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, 18.71 K/9)

    Absolutely nasty.

who ever said a thing like that has no business around baseball. Now as good or great if you will as he is on the college level. Its still not the major leagues. And its disengeniuos for anyone to make a remark like that. At least until he has been a pro and played against professionals. And I am not saying that he is not the 2nd coming, I am saying however. That all he has done is well and great for where he did it. I'm just not electing him to the HOF just yet. One other thing to consider. Not too many have thrown a ball harder than Nolan Ryan, and Yet Ryan is barely above a 500 pitcher.

Nolan Ryan is also in the Hall of Fame.

You know better than to use W-L to gauge a pitcher .

Plus, Ryan played on some beyond awful teams and that tagged a lot of losses on his record. And he played back in the day when most teams only ran a 4-man rotation.

He played a good deal of time in a 5 man rotation.

I think if Strasburg becomes a Nolan Ryan-type pitcher, I'll be pretty happy, and the Nationals will be good shape.

his fastball will need more movement....even at 100mph a lot of guys will hit it if it is straight.

the curves/sliders in that vid, however, seem very nice...maybe a little more snap is needed in their break, but they should serve very well as they are, simply as a change of pace.

if i were him, i would try to get someone to help me with a cutter...see thread on MRivera.

This article reminds me of Verlander. What happened to this guy? He looked awesome, then just balooned away like his E.R.A.

Strasburg has terrible arm action. He gets his velocity from what's called "Scapula loading". As far as mechanics go, it's the worst thing for a pitcher's arm. What's crazy is that he could possibly gain more velocity, but with increased velocity comes an increased risk of injury. I hope that he changes the mechanics of his arm action. Even if he doesn't, I pray that he remains injury free. I can't even watch him pitch because his extremely poor arm action is all I can think about.

Damn.. his slider is dirty. Rob Nen esque. I love the way they were just swinging at air. He had that team guessing the whole way.
