    Hello I am a newbie

Hello, I am new to HH and to baseball in general. I am a die hard football fan, but I needed something to keep me out of trouble in the off season and decided it miswell be baseball.

Now for the help I need. I can hit ok but my pitching is suspect. Because I never realy watched baseball I don't know the optimum position for the pitches. Like I dont know if a fastball should be low and inside or high and outside. Or if a slider should be high and outside or low and inside. And some of the pitches I have never heard of. I know this is a pretty wide open question but if someone with a lit more baseball knowledge could give me a run down I would be very grateful. Thank you

Wow, quite a big question!! Well, I'll try to help. Pitching takes a lot of thinking. In a video game, you have to know your pitchers best pitches. HH does this by listing that pitch first in the players list.

There really isn't any optimum place to put a certain pitch (Although I'd recommend not throwing a fastball right over the middle!). You just have to mix up your pitches a lot. If you throw a fastball low and inside for a strike, throw something off-speed (change, curve) on the outside corner the next pitch. Mixing up speeds and location is key. With 2 strikes try fastballs high and out of the zone or curves low and in the dirt. If you need a double play ball hit, try sinkers or low changeups since you can control those pitches low in the strike zone and these pitches often result in ground balls.

The best advice I can give you is to practice alot. You have to know your pitching staff and what pitches seem to work for you. You could also lower the CPU hitting slider until you feel more comfortable at pitching and then raise it back up. Hope this little bit helps!

That's the bottom line. You can get away with things in the first 3 innings by finding a groover, whether it's high low or whatever. But later on you will have to mix it up or they will hammer you, which is realistic. And why I love this game so much.
