HR's no problem, but singles.....?

After about 50 games I'm hitting extra-base hits at about 3-5 a game, but that's almost all I get. I'm averaging 7 hits a game, but hardly any singles. Question: Could I be using the d-pad TOO much trying to jack one every time and is that why my singles are so rare? When you need a 2 out single, do you guys and gals forget the d-pad and just try to hit it square? Seems often when I do this, I fly out or ground out easily. Any advice?

I think you are right about the d-pad being your problem. I only try to pull or spray the pitch if I have a power hitter up or a need a hit in a certain direction. The rest of the time I am just swinging away. I get mainly singles with my power guys getting the gappers and hr's.

Here's a couple...

Hitters with very little power (60 or less) I very rarely ever push up on the pad, usually aim opposite field or don't aim at all.

Power hitters I go for the big pull most of the time, if I'm down 0-2 or 1-2 I'll leave it centered.

If I'm looking for a sac fly I push straight up on the pad regardless of the hitter.

When I'm playing on artificial turf and I've got 2 strikes I like to pull straight down with my fast players who don't have any power (high choppers look cool too).

Yeah I just started going opposite field with my weak hitters last night with a lot of success. I basiclly sit on the pitches until I get a pitch on the outside portion of the plate. I think I got two doubles as a result with Carlos Febles.

The look of the high choppers is really cool. I think it is great how the player will stab his glove upwards to grab them. The only bummer is that (from my experience) the plays at first still are not that close even with a high chopper.

On another cool note, I have had several grounders shoot up when they hit the pitchers mound, going over the glove of the SS or 2B as a result.

I like seeing the cpu throws from the outfield to homeplate hit the mound and bounce off to the side ....but I don't like it when it happens to me

I have not seen that one yet...funny.

Do you use assisted or manual fielding? I switched a while back to assisted because of the miscues I kept having in the outfield.

I've been using assisted for a while, once I realized that assisted doesn't really make the game easier, it just gets rid of all the annoying switching that turns singles into triples.

Thanks guys....sounds like it's time for me to go back to the basics of baseball, instead of "playing a video game". My problem is I'm always trying to be ready for that mistake pitch, to drive it OOTP!!! I'm usually pushing up on pad, even with mediocre power guys. I'm going to try centering the ball for awhile.
On the fielding note, I've never tried the assisted fielding. I might have to, if it doesn't make that much difference. A strategy I've used for awhile now: I play EVERY hitter, no matter the power, on SACFICE BUNT outfield setting. This centers all OF's, about halfway in the outfield. I find I cut off a lot of their cheap singles this way, and they have yet to hit anything over my head, escept balls that I wouldn't have caught anyway. I have misplayed a few into triples, but again, I would have done that anyway.
