    Hitting Strategy Question

    This might be obvious, but:

    1) Do you have a better chance of getting a hit if you swing at a pitch in your red zone? In other words, if you put the same swing on a pitch are you more likely to make an out if it's in your cold zone?

I pretty much use the whole strike zone as fair game. Do you guys try to hold off of pitches in the cold zones?

I assume there's some difference in success rate, because otherwise there would be no point in having the hot/cold chart, right?

    Re: Hitting Strategy Question

I assume that a pitch that "goes blue" is still a mistake pitch, and I've had success with my better hitters in hitting it(same goes with the white dot). Obviously the red dot is the best, but thats no guarantee either. Anytime the dot shows up(except the ball dot) I'm swinging from the heels!

        Snaz,
In the PS2 version which I have, there are only "white dots" for mistake pitches.
I was referring more to just regular pitches that happen to be located in either your hot or cold zone.

No. I have the PS2 version. There are white, blue, red, and yellow dots for mistake pitches. Maybe you're thinking of the white dot that shows up for every pitch?

ok, I see what your sayin. I more or less pull the pitch with some uppercut with my power hitters, and try to go to the opposite field with my weaker hitters. Especially in righty vs righty,or lefty vs lefty. They will always throw a breaking pitch sometime in the AB,that will break to the outside of the plate, allowing me to go the opposite field. And the power hitters,I look for a pitch in thier zone, until i get 2 strikes, then I just look to put the ball in play. I am playing with the Tribe, and they are not going to hit all that well anyway. I'm into late May with a 25-18 record,1rst place,2.5 games in front of the(get this!) the Royals, who have reeled off 11 wins in a row! Uncanny huh! Burks has 14 HR and Garcia has 10,so I'm getting decent power from them.

                    Madskillz,
I haven't played in a few weeks since finishing my first year with the Mets.(Lost in Game 7 of the NLCS to the Giants, which sucks, but I pitched Bonds masterfully. He was his old "choking in the playoffs" self.) Anyhoo, I seem to remember only seeing white dots for mistake pitches!?! I play All-Star, so maybe that's it. Could just have forgotten.

But the "mistake pitch" aspect is a digression. I basically was wondering if hot/cold zones have any impact on success/hit rate for human players.

Yes, you are more likely to make solid contact on a red zone pitch then a blue zone pitch. But it still comes down to timing and where you are trying to hit the ball. If the pitch is outside in a red zone and you are trying to pull it you probably won't make the greatest contact on it.

i have the ps2 version and there are only white/yellow mistake pitches in my game. I've looked at the Harold Reynolds tutorial, which says that there are red, blue, and white mistakes, but I only see white and yellow mistakes.
