    let me go on record

    if barry bonds does not win the nl mvp again, it will be jose cruz jr. i know it may seem a long shot, it's just i biased feeling i have. bonds just makes players around him so much better.
    the only way kent will even come close to the production he had in sf is by taking advantage of the short dimensions in houston's orange juice stadium.

        agreed with madskillz. Cruz will put up good power numbers but he strikes out a lot, doesn't cash in easy runs, and has a low BA.

            If Colorado goes to the playoffs, I'd vote for helton. He's a hitter that you don't see in this game very often.

            But, I doubt they sill make the playoffs.

                this made me laugh, i know it sounds crazy and is a longshot, way longshot, like a par nine, i'm just stoked about how the guys playin' so far.
                but remember, when the giants traded matt williams for jeff kent, people thought it was a horrible trade and would've never considered kent as an mvp candidate.
                but i can respect that my saying cruz will win mvp makes me sound like an idiot

                    It's not really a crazy idea...I understand the point. The only problem is that when Jeff Kent won the award, Bonds was vastly underappreciated. But currently, for Jose Cruz to pile up stats like Kent did, Bonds will need to be in the lineup most of the season. And if he is in the lineup most of the season, then there will be a bias towards Bonds (unlike before) where everyone will know that he is the proverbial straw that stirs the drink and is the reason that Cruz had the stats. So Cruz needs Bonds to be healthy to put up MVP stats, but if Bonds is healthy he is his team's and the league's MVP...which means Cruz is out of the running. I vote Pujols for dark-horse MVP candidate...if he has an awesome third year in a row to start his career and the Cards do well, I think people will want to reward him.

                        i think pujols is a very good bet, if the cubs make the playoffs it will be tough for anyone besides bonds to beat out sosa

                            Helton's still a .300 hitter if you take away the Coors effect, but he's not an elite hitter. Good player, I'd say he's about the equal of John Olerud, only slightly younger.

                            Cruz? You're kidding, right?
