Stadium Details...Good, but Could be Better

I picked up WSB 2K3 the other day, and I am enjoying the game play a whole lot more than the ASB I played last year. But while many are awed by WSB’s details, I think that they have a ways to go to catch ASB in this department.

Advertisements – Where is the Citgo sigh beyond the Green Monster? And where is the big Yellow Kodak sign on the left field wall in Yankee Stadium? I understand the legal limitations, but why don’t they just do what ASB does at use a phony name with the same colors and fonts.

Scoreboards-I don’t know why, but this must be a difficult thing to program as none of the baseball games other than ASB seem to have dynamic scoreboards. No one seems to complain about this in the many reviews that I have read, so I must be in the minority, but it bugs me to see a ball hit off the Green Monster that says the score is 3-3 in the 5th, when it is the top of the first in the game that I am playing. To me, dynamic scoreboards in any sports game really help bring the stadium to life. While I may be whiny about scoreboards, I don’t care about Mo Vaughn’s body frame which is a topic that seems to come up in every other review. I guess we all have our own gripes.

I understand and agree that game play is more important than aesthetics, but I also enjoy the details that are put into the current generation of sports games. I won’t be putting WSB away in favor of ASB, but I think WSB2K4 can improve in the details department.

I think the stadiums are pretty well done for the most part but what I would like to see is the ball bouncing off things when ou hit a home run. I cn aunderstand if it goes into the stands and fans grab it but if I hit it off a wall I want to see it bounce off instead of vanish.

The only two things I've seen it bounce off was the scoreboard in Arizona, and that bigger wall behind the home run wall at Qualcomm.

He's just saying , we know it can be done, hence ASB', why couldn't WSB2k4 implement all those features.

I dont know why other companies dont just copy other's good ideas.

It depends on the idea. Most companies want their game distinguished from the rest. That being said, it wouldn't really be copying an idea to have a ball hit off a facade in right field, rather just better implementation, which is what I think everyone wants. Something that not every company might want is MVP's new throw system. It may be fun, but other companies might not want to look like copycats.

Yet you both read and responed to the post.

Just because someone makes suggestions about a game, it doesn’t mean that it sucks and you made a bad purchase, so there is no need to be so self consious and sensitive.

Infact it is quite the opposite. I make suggestions about games I like. I chose WSB over several other baseball games and I am pleased with the decision. I am just pointing out what would make it even better.
