It was funny, the guy on Pittsburgh ESPN radio station was talking about how pathetic it was when the Pirates only drew like 11,000 into PNC for the first game against the Giants (which they won btw)...what the guy failed to mention was that it was pouring down rain during that game!

Those numbers are based on ticket sales. I went to a blustery game at PacBell against the Dodgers which wasn't nearly filled to capacity, but was technically sold out. Get it?

I understand that... I kinda just went off on a tangent because the radio guy was bitching about "attendance" and not "sales"...

Even if they say there were only 11,000 in attendance, that is still based on sales. It may have had a little to do with the rain, in that there weren't as many walkup sales that day, but the point is that they're not selling at all for their games. Look at their average attendance... pathetic, especially for being in a new stadium and having a decent team.

I know... but when you don't have a competitive team for like 10 years, you really can't sell "We're gonna be good this year, I promise!" to most people. I'm quite enthused about this year's team, but that's me and not the major consensus of the people of the Burgh.
