Right Field at Citifield Is Going To Be An Absolute Circus Act All

I can tell already. There's going to be some quality butchery going out there, if what I saw last night is any hint.

You mean Church's nice blunder? Watching the highlights, the whole OF looks strange

it's gonna be pretty funny out there. When i went to the st. john's georgetown game and saw the in play overhang and the walls I could just tell it would be a right fielders nightmare.

I don't know if this is gonna be a good thing or just insanity out there.

Yeah the Mets went the extra mile with the whole throwback stadium thing as a lot of parks in the '30s and '40s had that kind of configuration. I hear Citifield is very closely modeled to Ebbetts in some ways.

Only on the outside, with the facade and the rotunda behind home plate. Wilpon grew up as a Brooklyn fan, so this whole thing has taken on an Ebbets v.1.1 feel. I have a feeling the walls will come in at some point, like they did with Comerica. Wright and Beltran hit a couple of absolute bombs to dead center last night that just died.

Wright got under his hit, I knew instantly that wasn't going to go out. I can't name a stadium off the top of my head aside from Cincinnati that I can assure that ball would have left the yard.

Not to say it was a bad hit at all, but he definitely didn't connect like it should have been a home run.

            I don't remember Beltran's fly out.

it's only 408 to dead center which is the same as yankee stadium and a couple of other parks....left and right are pretty deep and the gaps are huge though

From what I understand, they do have the ability to adjust the fences (I think something like 4 feet)..

One game in and we're already talking about moving in the fences, it's April for God sakes. Let's wait to see how the ball flies in June, July and August.

I was thinkin the exact same thing watching that game yesterday...I think eventually they'll change the wall height at the least.

It's also 2 ft shorter than Shea was (410 to dead center)

Nothing, he just booted one and felt really lost out there.

See, most fields you can still get a good grasp at how far away the fence is, and be lucky with cushioning your impact when you put your shoulder into it after the catch. at Citi Field, you don't know whether you're going back to how the wall regularly is, or the place where it jets out another ten feet deeper. He probably [safely] assumed the former and thought too much about it, slowing down and disregarding the effect the wind had on the ball.

If that isn't a circus, I don't know what is.
