    Turn Ahead The Clock

    Anyone remember this debacle?

Turn Ahead the Clock refers to a baseball promotion that was a humorous spin on more commonly seen Turn Back the Clock Night promotional events. Unlike Turn Back the Clock Night, when ballplayers wear vintage uniforms reflecting the history of their franchises, Turn Ahead the Clock Night tried to project what the sport might look like in the future. Players wore "futuristic" uniforms on the field, announcers used ridiculous terms to describe game events and positions, and the like.

TATC "Night" was actually a series of games scattered throughout the 1999 season. Major League Baseball awarded Century 21 Corp. the honor of sponsoring TATC Night.
Just look at some of these uniforms...

You think those are bad? Take a look at this...

That's right. The Mercury Mets. They no longer play in New York. It's all about colonizing other planets in the future, complete with baseball teams. Imagine those road trips...

Here is a great article about how the whole thing started:

The only TATC uniform that looked halfway decent was the Royals. I wish they'd do a league wide Turn Back The Clock promotion. It'd be cool if every team in the majors reverted to the '70s

I remember that Giants uniform very well. Worst design ever.

Sad thing is Nike has come out with uglier "real" basketball uniforms than those.

What about the Diamondbacks Marlins Rays and Rockies?, they did not exist in the '70s. Baseball would have to make godawful 70's inspired uniforms for them which would probably look as bad as the "future" uniforms posted above.

They could wear old minor league unis. I believe all 4 markets (except Arizona) had minor league teams in the past.

I like some of them. Something original for a change. All of baseball's uniforms are basically the same thing nowadays. Just different colors.

                    Hideous, ugly, terrible uniforms.

Why the big logo on each jersey? If they really wanted it to be futuristic, they should have planted large corporate logos on the jerseys. That would have made more sense.

I remember those, I also remember that Griffey designed the horrible Mariners uni's.
