I wasn't sure if we were looking at the same thing, nikeford. What I am referring to is the information on Sheet 2 of his spreadsheet that can be accessed by the link above.

It states, for example a 50 HR hitter or more should be an A+

A .340 hitter should be an A+

Etc...

Are you saying these are used by Acclaim? If so, I have never seen them before. I think they're great and very helpful.

So...I am correct in assuming that for Contact, a .100 refers to K/AB? And that anyone at .100 or lower would rate an A+ for Contact?

I'm not sure, recon. Obviously for very few AB's, the results could definitely be skewed. This is a pretty good system, though. It may have to be tweaked for players who only have minor league stats or very very few major league AB's.

I'm still wondering where it came from...

Yeah i just did i try using mlb.com stats and the equation, the ratings were pretty close some way off, but i may have not used the equation right. Also didnt figure out how hitting and speed would be figured. I'm gonna keep studing and will let you know

HR's = (HR/AB)*600 This would be more accurate if I used PA, but I don't think MLB.com or ESPN.com list PA as a stat and I was too lazy at the time to find it our figure it out.

Patience = (BB/AB) again, PA would be more accurate

Contact = (K/AB) ditto on the PA

Hitting is just straight up BA

Velocity is the high velocity that a scouting report says a player can hit...not sure how accurate my numbers are, it's hard to figure out exactly what the velocity ratings are in ASB

Control = (BB/IP)

Stamina = (IP/G) This gets tricky for some players. If i was creating Tim Wakefield his stamina would be very high, but his (IP/G) would be low because he has pitched alot in relief.

I have not found an effective way to measure for speed. pickoff, and the defensive categories yet, but I am working on them.

By the way, I use career numbers and then I average them with last season to make the numbers more current for players who are coming off of great or terrible seasons. This does not come up much though because most players who are not in the game do not have much major league experience. For rookies I use minor league stats and knock them down one rating, which is generous i think. So if a batter would be a B in power based on minor league numbers, I give him a B-.

Ok, those are all my secrets. No more mystery to the pfunk ratings system, I welcome any suggestions to make it more accurate.
