What's with all the HRs this year?

Was last year just an anomaly? Are the balls juiced? Is the pitching that bad? Are players back on the juice?

What's your theory on this because we're only in April and balls are exploding off the bats of hitters in a torrent like it's 1997-98 all over again.

I was going to say the same thing, except I've noticed the big inning splurges. Pitchers just must be off their mark early this year.

Maybe more pitchers were on the juice than previously thought.

Wouldn't surprise me if baseball juiced the balls to keep the homeruns going, especially with the league trying to clean up the roids. No mistake that baseball's popularity increased with McGwire and Sosa's homerun orgy.

If that were the case, guys like Oswalt would be all over getting that addressed.

            i blame the no-high-strikes thing...

the ****ing strike zone if from the knees to the belt. that is pitiful.

add that to juicers, bam-box parks like Cincy and Houston, weight-training, and woeful pitching depth.

That being said, I wish the Cubs would get their share.

I think it's lack of conditioning from the pitchers.

Sinker ball guys are getting rocked it seems. Balls aren't down in the zone from the games I've watched or clips I've seen.

Give it till next month and it'll calm down.

Could just be an anomaly. If we get 80ish games in and the same things are still happening, then it becomes an issue.

im not complaining, pitchers need to step there game up. and everyone goes to the ball park to watch the long ball anyways.

i think its cuz the pitching has just been horrible. dont think anyone is juicing anymore

It's because you have teams like the Padres trotting out a 32-year old rookie and two cast-offs, one that was kicked off the Giants and one that couldn't even make the Nationals rotation.

If you ask me I think the umps are making the strike zone higher this year. Sinker ball pitchers can't catch a break in the zone from what I've seen. Bottom of the zone is nuts high instead of knee high.

its all about the offense in baseball and its that way because mlb believes offense and homeruns is what sells. And they need to make the sport sexy and nothing does that like offense. Personally I liked the game pre 1969 when the mound was higher and the strike zone was fair and there was no such animal as "pitch count" which is a joke anyway. I liked it when the closer had to pitch 3 innings in order to get a save. I have no idea why since humans are getting bigger and stronger by the decade, that todays starter can barely go 5 innings and is applauded as a quality start! I need to calm down, lol. But I think most people would agree that pitch count is way over done and they need to train these pitchers to go deeper into the games.

Pitch counts are ridiculous. There are other signs of knowing when to pull a guy.

Yesterday, my brother and I were just commenting on how many Grand Slams there were just two weeks into the season.

For you Yankee fans, what's everyone saying about the park? It's seems like Minute Maid East right now.
