I'll be the first to admit i prolly don't know EVERYTHING about this stuff, but what I DO know is that it's contracted through droplets... via coughing/sneezing. So the filter mask IS your best defense.. they say you can contract it by it sitting on surfaces and will last up to a day before dying on said surface.

The news down here (Pittsburgh) said it's impossible to have it unless you've been travelling, but seeing as you live in or near Toronto where the first cases were detected, I think you'd be a little in the danger zone.

first time I heard of this stuff, was when Jeter went to the hospital on Opening Day in Toronto and they were fearful for him contracting this new epidemic.

only old people, children, and people with weak immune systems die from it. Hell, I'll french kiss a woman with SARS for a minute on tv cause I just don't care. Ain't no big deal.

True, but it was orignially from Singapore. China/hong kong has it the worst, over 100 people have died their.

They said the mortality rate was like 1 out of 9 people.... and that one probably had medical conditions to begin with, or else as you mentioned, old.

The reason nobody here in America really knows a damn thing about SARS is because nobody will tell us. All they do is say on the news "THE SARS OUTBREAK HAS REACHED EPIDEMIC PROPORTIONS IN HONG KONG, AND EVERYONE IS DYING"......yes....and um....exactly how is it contracted? Is it airborne? can I die from it? what the hell does it do? None of this, they tell us NONE of this...it's funny, but I kind of expect this from the news casters, being that it's natural for them that when they finally DO get to the REALLY IMPORTANT NEWS, they act like it's worthless crap and nobody needs to know about it.
