Jays need to get rid of Ryan

I was warching the game last night and noticed how B.J. Ryan doesnt play very well under pressure which is a skill you must have to be a MLB Closer much like the first game he had a three run lead and blew it.... They really need a new closer.

He still isn't fully recovered from his injury. His velocity is down at 86-88 instead of 92-93. They just put him on the DL so maybe he can build back up his arm strength in the minors.

I think Ryan still has something left but not as a closer. I have a feeling Scott Downs is going to take the closer's role and keep it all to himself.

Ryan's last blown save wasn't TOTALLY his own fault.

It's not like Downs has never closed before and he's been the Jays' best lefty out of the pen for the last couple or so years. The guy is a groundball pitcher what more can you ask for?

Downs is gone in most fantasy leagues, I've picked up Justin Frasor. What's his likelihood for saves?

            Also what about Accardo?

Frasor had a nice run a couple years ago closing games for the Jays but he lost a lot of what made him good. He has shown he can't pitch in the high pressure situations but is a good bullpen guy. He pitched a couple innings the other night if i'm not mistaken.

As for Accardo, he lost one of his pitches, I believe his slider or something like that and he's toiling in the minors trying to get his stuff back together. Honestly I don't know what will happen to him as he was being groomed to at least be a set up man for the Jays.

I'm pretty sure Accardo's in the majors and has one or two saves already this year.

Unless you feel you're a true World Series contender and that your bullpen is holding you back (or if you have an unlimited payroll), it's incredibly foolish to sink much money in a closer.

Uh No..He's not even on the active roster and has not played for the Jays since last year.

Meh I kind of expected this to happen. Ryan doesn't exactly have the smoothest delivery to the plate. It's only a matter of time before he got TJ (which he already did) and somehow completely loses it. At least I think we're washed clean of him after next year... a lot of contracts come off the books for us next year I think, minus Wells and Rios.

In any case, I think a closer by committee system will work for now. Our BP is still middle of the pack so that's something to be proud of. I think if our starting pitching somehow holds for a month (or whenever Romero and Litsch comes back) then that would be a MIRACLE. Seems like year after year the only constant variable we have at pitching has always been Halladay. Everyone else is just a big ? or is somehow always lost to an injury.

I really hope we can survive with the guys we have right now, Richmond and Tallet just needs to burn 5-6 innings without imploding every 5 days and I'll be a happy man. Purcey is just struggling with his command (again, tonight vs the Royals). And the best starter we can call up is a guy that has a 6+ ERA in AAA (Burres). Is JP not calling up Cecil or Mills because he has to use minor league options to send them back?

If only MLB contracts weren't guaranteed, ah...
