    Re: 4/27-5/3 MLB Discussion

Well, I'm going to have to say it superstitious as anyone is because I want the Red Sox to win:

Garza is throwing a perfecto against Boston through five innings so far. Obviously that's not much, but this is the Sox. Good job so far.

    EDIT: Now six innings.

Garza certainly has been mowing them down tonight so far.

I wish I could say the same for Beckett. He came out of the gate looking excellent, hitting his spots and striking out 5 in the first two innings. Then he gives up back to back infield hits, a walk, a double, and everything spiraled from there. His command from the stretch has been absolute crap this year. Just one quality start this year for him. I know the season is only a month old, but given how inconsistent he has been outside of one year with the Red Sox, I'm fairly certain the Sox will pick up his option for 2010 and that will be it for him. Unless he ends up being so bad in 2009 that he isn't even worth the one year option for 2010.

Don't worry, Ortiz is going to break it up in the 7th with his first homerun of the year.

          (maybe)

The pressure is all on Garza at this point. No one Red Sox batter should take the bat off his shoulder until he has at least one strike. Anything else (zero strike count) would be idiotic.

He's gotten away with so many first pitch breaking balls, I'm surprised no one has gone up there anticipating that.

Hey, if he can throw a perfecto that will be incredible. I'd rather see him do that than just no-hit Boston.

Within reason (meaning aside from one virtually layed down the pipe), I agree.

Aww, a cheap jam shot infield hit for Ellsbury. Tough break.

Yep. Time for the Sox to win this game now.

It's kind of funny he's done this well. I've seen him with much better stuff than he's had tonight but you just never know.

That was a pretty bad call at first on Pedroia. Not that it matters considering it's 8-0 in the 7th.

So Ortiz walks here pretty much guaranteeing he won't hit a homerun in the month of April. In his last 130 at-bats dating back to the start of the 2008 Playoffs, he has 1 homerun.

He looked pretty bad in the series against the Yankees. Definitely doesn't have the bat speed that he once did. He was getting blown away by 92 MPH fastballs.

Javy Lopez sucks so much that Francona just moved him to right field and now Van Every is going to try to get two outs with his 75 mph heater.

                                Why does he still pitch?

He just is not ready, time to send him back down to AAA.
