ASB- how do i know if a trade is fair?

i'm doing a franchise mode and while i can make several beneficial trades, i don't want to make it too easy for me. i just want a general opinion on how you know if a trade if fair or not.

one example is... i'm the mets and i put armando benitez on the block. he's a b+ with one year left on his contract. when i put him on the block, i get offers like luis castillo, damon, torii hunter, and tim salmon. all good player who wouldn't be traded for benitez in real life. any suggestions and thanks for all who reply?

I usually end up trading based on need, and not what the CPU offers me. If I really don't need a Tim Salmon or a Torii Hunter, I probably won't trade for one.

I think the game's trade logic is too much based on overall rating, and doesn't take things into consideration like contracts. Plus, I wouldn't consider Armando Benitez a B+ player.

also consider the CPU teams needs too. IF a team doesn't need a closer, don't do the trade.
