    Shea's last days

I'm a Cubs fan, but to see Shea like this makes me kinda sad. There were some serious battles in that stadium in the 84 and 85 between the Cubs and Mets....not to mention the complete failure towards the end of 69

The outfield once patrolled by Agee, Swoboda, Youngblood, Strawberry, Dykstra, Hundley (lest we forget), Beltran, even The Stork...now guarded by three cranes...

Thought that was a great caption..........

I like the new stadium, but will miss the old boy a lot.

Thanks for the pic's.. I went to a game last year at Shea, Mets-Rockies had to go before they tore it down, great ballpark even if it was a tad dumpy lol.

NP...... I am a sucker for older stadiums and hate to see them go the way of Tiger, Shea, Yankee. I would have no idea what I would if they tore Wrigley down.

There's a law in NY against imploding buildings. I don't exactly know WHY they don't though. Maybe a New Yorker can answer that. I think i'd prefer an implosion to seeing a stadium with some character being knocked down piece by piece like this.

NYC has an ordinance not allowing for either imploding or using a wrecking ball for demolition. Don't know exactly what the reason for it is, but that is why the stadium came down essentially "by hand".

Blue, I remember going to one of those '85 Cubs/Mets battles (Sutcliff vs Gooden) though I don't remember who won. That was my first taste of the "red seats" . I'll have to post pics for you of the Cubs/Mets game I am going to at Citi this year.

Yeah, please post some those pics. I went to a Mets-Cubs game also in 85 at Wrigley and it was Gooden vs Sutcliffe. My Parents could only get standing room only, but we sat on the walkway that Harry and Steve used to get the the Booth. The Cubs won that day, but I am remember how crazy the atmosphere was. The only Two Games I have ever been to, that matched that electricity was The Bulls-Knicks in the 93 playoffs and Notre Dame vs Miami in 1990.

So you are going to the Mets vs Cubs at Citi....and you forgot to invite you ol friend Blue??That sounds fun as hell, have a great time Steve and may the Cubs win!
