The Yankees' announcer that says, "it's an A-BOMB from A-ROD"

is the worst announcer ever. I don't know who he is, nor do I know his name, but he just f'n annoys me. He has to be the worst play caller ever.

Pick your poison... That would be John Sterling, and the "A BOMB" call is just one of many that would make me stick an ice pick in my eardrum if I had to hear him on a regular basis. He's had a plethora of painful home run calls. It's a shame that a flagship franchise like the Yanks has to suffer with bad announcers in both the radio and TV booth. Both Sterling and Michael Kay can go suck one.

        John Sterling?

He is annoying, but Kay takes the cake. That's the worst guy in NY. I haven't met a person that doesn't want to punch Kay in the face. Really, just looking at him gives me that urge. I just want to punch him.

I can tolerate Sterling more than Kay. His home run call (It is high...) isn't that bad, its just the dumb nicknames he gives all the players after they hit one.

Only time Yankee games are tolerable to listen to though is when Kay doesn't make the trip and Singleton and either Flaherty or Leiter call the game on YES.

I guess I'm in the odd boat of actually liking John Sterling.

I enjoy calls like "A-bomb from A-Rod" and "You're on the Mark, Texiera!" or "Sends a Tex Message."

I find it to be entertaining, and tune into more yankees games now just to listen to him call the game.

Susan on the other hand, don't get me started on her.

susan is the worst you are right about that, but Sterling is entertaining and it makes me laugh so thats why i dont really care. Kay I harass him on his radio show when ever I feel he does something dumb or exaggerated.

Except that not every homer is high and far. Sometimes they are low line drives that barely sneak over the fence.

Wow. You must have to call like 15 times a day or something.

Even though I'm a Mets fan, I would still watch the Yankee broadcasts back in the day on Channel 11. I really enjoyed the broadcasts of Phil Rizzuto, Frank Messer and Bill White.

I've seen/heard some of Sterling's work and he isn't nearly as bad as some other announcers ("COUGH" Hawk Harrelson and co. "COUGH") and I think if you strip him of some of his annoying calls like the A-Bomb one he's actually pretty decent. The thing is he wraps himself around his catchphrases a bit too much and it becomes rote and annoying.

I don't mind the A-Bomb call or his "yankees win" call if done in moderation trouble is, he uses those calls ALL THE FREAKIN' TIME! I know the Yanks have a history of colorful announcers (I mean hell, Phil Rizzuto was a much loved icon) but it's a double edged sword and sometimes the likes of Sterling and Kay can go overboard.
