They all pale in comparison to Jim Kaat. I heard Kaat wanted back in the Yankee booth this year but was turned down by the YES network. WTF? He's classic!

Kaat was great. I hope that's not true, but it might be I heard they had some issues with him because he was a little too honest.

I think David Cone is the best analyst they have now, he does a really good job imo.

That call is one of the worst ones out there. It's good at times but he over uses it. Interesting how his voice sounds deeper on radio. What is it with radio and people's voices sounding slightly different.

So that's why there's no Kaat? I liked him a lot too. He spoke his mind and wasn't afraid to tell the truth. I hate how Kay wants to say the truth but is obviously treading a fine line between being fired and keeping his job. He's not very good at masking it so it turns into a bunch of questions. He also likes to deflect a lot of that stuff on O'Neill and Cone.

I think Paul O'Neill is growing on me. Anyone ever notice how he's constantly challenging Kay? It's like Paul doesn't really like the guy and is trying to break him on air. I hope he can succeed one day.

Phil Rizzuto was the guy I grew up listening to and he will forever be my favorite broadcaster. No disrespect to legends like Scully, but Rizzuto was my broadcaster and he reminds me of baseball on a Saturday afternoon.

Leiter does the same thing when he calls games. I think he hates Kay.

I dunno. I guess I don't feel that he overuses it anymore than say Marty Brennamen says "This one belongs to the reds!" after a Cincinnati victory. The only difference is it seems the Yankees win more than the Reds.

Announcing is hard. I used to do it for a living. I'd like to again but it was too competitive. Being a color guy is very difficult because everyone tells you "fans are dumb keep it simple"...being a play-by-play guy anymore, everyone watns to do tv...so the announcing school train that. That's why radio announcers suck.

What sport did you do announcing for? I think football is probably the easiest out of all the announcing jobs with hockey and basketball being the hardest.

Football and basketball, some color for baseball and about 6 games of play by play for it. Basketball is hard because you have to tell people where the ball is where the players are and keep up w/the action. Baseball at the college level was easier than the hs level because you had a little info on the players, it's gotta be way tough for announcers to keep being interesting of 162 games. Thats why I love Niehaus, his stories.
