            Re: Changes to the game

In my opinion the salary cap has ruined football, I don't want to see the same thing happen in baseball. I think revenue sharing is a far better solution.

When I say it ruined football, I say it not because of the parody and 'no dynasty' argument we've all heard. I love the parody. What I HATE is that every year we see good second string players cut because they can't fit under the cap. It's the NFL we should be watching the best players in the world, not the best players who can fit under the cap! The salary cap severely CHEATS THE FANS.
Another thing, team ownership is NEVER going to lower ticket prices or concesions because of money they saved on player salary.

I'm afraid you left off half of a legit thought. The salary cap severely CHEATS THE FANS of teams in large markets. Conversely, the salary cap is entirely fair to teams in smaller markets. Look at Green Bay. Do you honestly think they'd have a chance in hell of remaining competetive if there were no cap?

I'd rather see parity among teams every year (except for the Bengals and Cardinals, of course) than see things like the football version of the Yankees. Sure, you can complain about no dynasties, but if you think about it, dynasties are only fun to the fans of that team (and bandwagoners). The rest are left thinking dammit, there they go again.

Oh, and to make this on topic, we already saw what the NHL fans thought of an international all-star game. It was so well received that they don't do it anymore.

                    Re: Changes to the game

That's why I prefer revenue sharing over a salary cap. Make the big market teams kick some of that profit to the teams they play against, the small market teams.
That way, everyone has somewhat equal money to pursue free agents and we still get to see the best talent in the world.
Like I said, I prefer the parody, but not at the cost of diluting the talent. My son's Little league division has alot of parody, that doesn't make it the best baseball to watch.

I enjoy parodies too! Especially the AIRPLANE movies and the NAKED GUN movies!

BTW I agree on revenue sharing instead of a hard cap. Maybe they should do a variation on the NBA salary cap while also implementing revenue sharing.

The problem with revenue sharing is that a lot of high revenue teams (such as the Yankees) come up with creative ways of hiding most of the revenue they get, and still are able to buy up as many players as they want. I'd be more in favor of revenue sharing if it actually accomplished something (and keeping small market teams afloat to serve as Yankee/Red Sox/Braves fodder doesn't count)
