    asb- a save at 13-2?

ok, i'm the mets @ the padres. glavine ptiched 5 full innings, then i brung in grant roberts to finish the remaining 4. it was 9-2 in the 6th when roberts was ptiching and gave up 7 hits and no runs. he ended up finishing the 9th with 2 lob. glavine got credited with the win. but why did roberts get credit for a save in a blowout?

If a pitcher pitches the final three innings of a game no matter what the score is, the pitcher gets credit for the save. I didn't know this either until Jim Brower was credited with a save in Montreal earlier this year for the Giants.

That is why Joaquin Benoit got a 8 2/3 inning save last year. Long story, Ryan Glynn got pulled after getting hit.

But yes, If a pitcher throws the final 3 innings it is a save.
