    Funny Ground Rules

I was listening to Felipe Alou on the radio and he said that if someone hits a ball high of the brick wall in right center ('421 @ Pac Bell) and it carroms off the wall and over the shorter fence (in front of the bleachers) it's a home run and NOT a double. Bonds hit a ball where this almost happened, the other night, so it's possible. If it woulda hit the wall a bit more towards center it would've.
That's crazy, is there any other park where you can homer off the wall?

not that i know of, but you can homer off the catwalk in Tampa and you used to be able to homer through the hole in the roof in the Kingdome, fittingly Dave Kingman did it.

I remember when Kingman did that, for some reason I was thinking it was the Metrodome though. Anyways, he hit some towering shots in his time.

now we'll have to look this up, cause you might be right. I know Darryl Strawberry hit one at Olympic Stadium that never came down, but that one managed to actually land on a catwalk. They estimated that it would have been well over 500 feet if it hadn't gotten stuck.

The closest I know to a rule where if you hit off the wall it's a homerun is that if you hit a ball off of the clock above the scoreboard at Forbes Field, it was a homerun.

I feel the need to mention Mice Schmidt's single off the speaker at the Astrodome.

Mice Schmidt? Did he get a piece of cheese after he hit it?

You're right on both counts. Kingman did hit one in the Metrodome that didn't come down. I don't think they had a ground rule for it at the time so he was given a double.
