WSB: Cutting Down HRs - Has Anyone Edited Pitchers' HR Attributes?

I am about 30 games into my Pirates franchise, and - I have been very happy with my sliders:

    Timed hitting
    Computer Pitching Ability - 100
    Computer Hitting Ability - 37
    Computer Hits Strikes - 70
    Computer Hits Balls - 70
    Computer Throws Strikes - 1

The only thing I don't like about these sliders is that there are way too many HRs. I have hit about 10 more HRs than any other NL team (which is ridiculous, given the fact that I am playing as the Pirates), and I have given up 62 HRs, while most teams have given up around 30 - and Cincinnati has given-up the second most at 52.

Anyway, I was looking at my pitchers' attributes today, and I noticed that a few of my pitchers had Give up HR attributes (separate for right-handed and left-handed batters) in the 30s and 40s, while most pitchers are in the low 50s on this attribute. I immediately raised all of the ratings in the 30s and 40s to 50 or 51, and am going to do the same for my current opponent's staff (the Astros) tonight. If this reduces the # of HRs hit over the next few days, I am going to do this for every team.

I love this game, but some of the HRs are absolutely ridiculous. Juilio Lugo hit his first of the year off Kris Benson (who had a 38 for one of his ratings) the other day - a 445 foot bomb - which is almost laughable....

Has anyone else edited these attributes?

interesting idea, though personally i havent really had issues with the HR rate.....however, one thing i DID do was lower my pitchers SO rating (in most cases i made it a direct match to what their walk rating was).....its cut down on the K's substantially, making me work for them.....i know a lot of people keep tweaking their sliders (me included) to reflect this type change.....give it a try, its working quite well for me.....i havent tried upping the walk rating yet, i wonder if that would enable me to issue some more frequently?

You would have to lower the walk rating if you wanted to make your pitchers walk more batters.

lower it? i understood it the other way, that if the rating was high, you woul,d be more inclined to issue walks.....ill have to try that out

Well I don't use those slider settings. I think it depends which team your being and who your facing. Also the sliders. But since I upgraded the CPU pitching to 95 I can never hit HR's anymore hardly. I had hit 28 with Richie Sexson in 70 games. Now I haven't hit one in like almost 20 games. When I was playing my first 70 games, I was playing with really low sliders basically. But anyways it probabily just matters who your hitting with and whose on the mound pitching.

I don't even use sliders and I will probably see a combined 5-6 homers TOPS in a game between me and the CPU. I have a hard time finding a game where NONE are hit though...there's always one, but with some of my guys I only swing for the fences...lol

I'd say I see about 3 homers a game average.

What I mean by "no sliders" is I'm playing on All-Star, Fast pitching, no pitch preview and timed hitting.. i'm not having that bad of a power surge, or giving up one either. I got the occasion homerun derby games however.

                            Well....

It didn't work very well in the first game against the Astros. Kip Wells hit a 405 foot homer to left; Berkman hit 2, and Bagwell hit a grand slam (I threw a damn high fastball outside with 2 outs and the bases loaded - I'm such an ***)....

I had to save the game, 6-6 in the top of the 12th, and am looking forward to finishing it. I'm sure I'll give up a HR in the bottom of the 12th - which will annoy me to no end....

So - I am getting 3-6 HRs (between both teams) per game. This isn't too bad, it's just that the HR numbers are going to end up a bit on the high side.
