Does the computer steal? (ASB)

I have played this game for a while and i haven't noticed the comp. stealing any bases, is that because i play on veteren and need to go on allstar or is it rare for them to steal?

Also how do you slide step, in the manual it says hold x (PS2) but that doesnt work.

slide step: push down on the left joystick (L3), then hold while pressing "x"(pitch)

yeah, the computer does steal occasionally, but generally you can throw them out if you slide step.
